Well, we practised hard and we watched Youtube videos till our eyes ached. Then the two of us pooled the benefits of our joint research and we returned to the Hindwell, determined better our last performance. My objective, to catch a fish. My mate, to loose fewer. And we succeeded! 5 to hand for me (lost three) and 7 to hand (loosing only two) for my good friend, mentor and tutor. All told, a very enjoyable day.

River level very low, extremely difficult not to spook fish. Not much coming off the surface, but saw a couple of fish rising. Fished a size 16 parachute adams with a small gold bead PTN 12 inches below. Both brown trout (1 x 6 inches, 1 x 8 inches) took the nymph but had a few takes on the dry and a couple of long distance C&Rs. First time fishing this nice stretch of water but plenty of dog walkers and dogs in the stream, which became slightly frustrating at times.

Late afternoon visit & first time on this beat & so really worked out how to get at the fishing & from which bank to get in. As I walked to the weir at the bottom I saw several fish rising & taking various upwing species. Sat down & put a fly on & they all knew I think; Only saw two more fish rise in the next 2 hours. Missed one caught the other. He was a fighter too but went back safely. We are so lucky to be able to isolate on such beautiful stretches of British countryside. I shall be back ,earlier & with a better plan of action .
By the way the not-so-little spider who lived behind the felt in the lid of my Wheatley fly box had obviously had enough of playing 'jack-in-box' & had planned his escape; As soon as I opened the box he shot out like a bullet ,down my wader leg & off into the long grass. I suspect he was quite hungry having been in there for some months. I shall miss him though.

First time back here for a while, its still lovely. Escorted in down the lane by two fawns who for the life of them couldn't work out where to cross the hedge. Not much doing in the lower section at all really (apart from one escape artist which jumped into a tree and transferred my hook to a branch, incidentally followed on later by being transferred to some roots by another near the cottage). Improved closer to the midway point with a few hard hits on a dry sedge. Fished duo thereafter upstream with takes on both flies. One lump on a klinkhamer also. 7 to net some 5 more shook the hook plus similar missed takes. Absolutely no sign of any oos grayling, very surprising given past experience here.

Lots and lots of crayfish husks. Also saw a pesky mink right at the top of the beat which left rather leisurely as I arrived. I did land two of my fish from the pool that it had been fishing though so maybe I should be grateful. Thanks WUF.

2 Salmon parr, 1 small chub and 4 trout 3 of which were about 1lb. Fished beat 2 where there is still some depth and flow in places although quite a tinge on the water (from the algae?) Very Sporadic hatch of upwinged olives during the afternoon and evening. And a reasonable hatch of caddis about 8pm. 1 trout caught on a snipe and purple all of the other fish on an Endrick spider. Must have lost 5 trout - all of which were a good size.

4 Trout, 1 Chub, 2 Other

A great day on this lovely beat. Sporadic hatches of upwings all day and trout rising, but picky. Smaller trout, all of around 12 inches, caught during the day. Bigger trout in the semi dark, up to 17 inches. Water low and clear (0.25 at Trallong) and by the evening the water temp seemed to have risen. Need a thermometer next time.

Well , another session on the Kington beat , mainly went up to the weir yesterday ,no one had booked , so i figured if a wild stream permit holder was parked up, I'd do an about turn and have a go at Manor Farm . . . . Turned up , no one at the bridge so set up ,usual six foot , two weight rig ,much better day today, as I tackled up at half eight , no wind , and overcast and mild , good start . . . .

Not any rises bar two seen today , so.opted for ever so tiny nymphs, and e of the good pools , since yesterday now has an alder right across it , Shane as its x great trouty pool too !!!! I picked up four fish right up to the weir , then looped round and did some of the water fifty yards up from the weir , great sport this morning , with PTN and Baetis nymohs scoring well , with good savage takes to them ,even in the slower pools .

A pleasant four hours this morning , finishing about half twelve I think , twelve lovely brownies to the net , ranging from five to twelve inches , some unexpectedly good trout in really skinny water thus morning , great stuff !!!!

Always fun here , with its varied water , could do with three good days rain , fish didn't seem that spooked even with fishing the bottom section yesterday as well , which was good , although I did make sure the flies presented were different !!!!

A fun few hours and some great sport , back here once its had some rain, great fun , back home for a well earned pork pie and a bottle of Butty Bach . . . .Sorted !!!!!!

4 x trout 6-15 inches, Monnow Gosling and Hackle Mayfly. I just did the bit from the footbridge to the mill. The water was very low, but mayfly about and the odd good fish was rising in deep pools. I missed a couple of others. These beat is as much in need of a trim as most of the anglers.
