Mild and over cast with river pretty low and clear. No sign of rises so nymphed for a while but with no success. Around 4ish a few rises spotted so switched to dry fly and one hard fighting 12” Brown Trout taken on a small black F fly. Photographed and quickly released.

River running clear. Weather dry part cloud. 2 rods.

Mainly nymph being used, one nice trout to caddis nymph plus a number of missed takes which made it an enjoyable day. Tenkara method used with 12ft and 13ft rods. Access good but take care approaching gate to fishery, with a blind summit nearby it is safer to approach from Erwood with the entrance on the left.

Decided to give one of the club's waters a go again before the next spell of wet and windy weather arrives as, in a little over a week, the trout season ends. Fished a shorter day than usual and went expecting to be bugging, as top of the water fishing has been so poor of late but, just about to start, I saw a couple of risers so fished the old trusted small HE emerger and had four fish on it and a dark olive Duck's Dun. Then bugged to no avail and headed up to a sheltered spot where a couple more risers came to the HE emerger, including a lovely 16" , one and half pounder. Hopefully there may be just a couple more decent days to admire a few more of these beautiful Usk fish before the end of the month.

One small trout on a day that brought very bright sunshine in the morning, changing to a cool, overcast afternoon.
Many flies hatching all day but not many fish rising and those that were appeared to be very small.
