Beat:Pontithel - River Llynfi

Fishing:Winter Grayling

First time fishing Pontithel. The stream was much bigger than other wild streams I have fished. Started off with 6ft 3wt and soon realised I needed a longer rod. Good thing was the car park was next to the river. So a quick trip back to the car to change to 8ft6.

Had 1 grayling and 4 out-of-season brown, all taking deep pheasant tail nymp.

Could not fish all the way to the beat-end. About 3/4 up the beat, it became too deep to wade. Tried to go around but the left bank had barbed wire and the right bank had thick thorn bushes. Barbed wire was definitely a no. After successfully climbed the steep bank and used the wading stick to make my way through the bushes, ran into another barbed wire. So called it a day and painfully made my way back through the bushed to the river.

Overall, still enjoyed it. Oos browns were quite large for wild brown standard.

Ps > the grayling didn't make it way to the camera as it slipped out before the shot was taken

They tell me it was warmer today but my toes beg to differ on that one ! The water was also very low and crystal clear making it a little tricky in some of the spots. I caught all the fish in just one area in the morning, could'nt find anything on the rest of the beat all afternoon. Got a bit windy by then but i did'nt mind it had been a good day. Fish all caught on nymphs, biggest grayling 17".

First outing since the recent floods. In fact my first fishing day out since October 23rd. Great to be back on the bank and the Wye. Was a proper winter wonderland at the Creel today. freezing fog creating a picture postcard, with the river steaming too, just amazing. As for the fishing, well that was tough. Had two lovely Chub only but glad they were obliging on such a cold day. Level was 1.2m and falling with temp at 5.0 degrees. Nice day on the Wye and to be honest was glad to be out of the office at last. More fish next time I hope. Wondeful day.

I Thought today would be a more productive day after the settled weather and with some sunny spells but it was hard going. Only one 10” grayling taken on a tungsten beaded cased caddis. Fished the euro nymph all day.

Pleasant day on the Town waters . Blanked in the morning , but the stretch switched on around mid day after a visit to greggs for lunch . Some nice grayling to around 1.5lbs , topped by a lovely fish as the light faded , weighed in at 2lbs 2oz . All caught trotting maggot .
