No matter what time of year or what the flow is like, this is a stunning stretch of the Wye. I'm not overly keen on fishing the main river, sometimes I've looked at certain beats and haven't had the slightest idea what to do ! With Craig Llyn though I'm given half a chance and seeing it at the level it was today, I learned a bit more. 2x Grayling 7& 17 ins and a very disgruntled wbt of 16/17 ins all to a Greenwells Glory.

Area:Lugg & Arrow

Beat:Arrow Monkland

Fishing:Trout (River)

Only fished the mill race section from the bank which is more open. River running clean, lots of insect life. Few fish rose all day - about 6 splashes of small fish plus 2 big rolling boils of a larger fish. Using tenkara rod and caught the one trout on small butcher nymph - nice fish 10" about 8 oz which I took although felt somewhat guilty doing so! Much of the river very over grown and difficult to get down into - I am ambivalent about wading the Arrow as my experience of the river elsewhere is that the fish are very easily spooked. Also wading on mixed silt and gravel does do some damage to the habitat of the river bed.

Whitney Court is in my opinion the most beautiful of all the river Wye beats. Although only able to fish for a few hours the quality of the Barbel fishing was exceptional. Thanks to all concerned for making this a memorable visit.

A new beat for me and one that I will happily return to. A good mix of water to suit several styles of fishing. As a blind angler I have to fish leader to hand and there were some lovely riffles at either end of the beat which were tailor made for that style. All in all a very pleasent day.

I only spent a hour at this beat. I found it to be very overgrown and no fish were caught.
