A difficult day and as a previous poster complained very few swims available, needs parking/access at bottom of beat as very few coarse anglers are going to walk a mile carrying their tackle.

Lovely stretch of the wye and the fishing was very good , fished usual method of feeder and bookies/pellets. Average size of the barbel was 6 to 8 lbs. Access to the swims we fished was pretty treacherous and could do with so steps dug to make safer. Could do with a few more swims in the lower downstream section and be aware of anglers do fish the opposite bank. Overall a very enjoyable session and we were pleased with our results.
WUF Note : The Wye is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC). There are therefore strict controls on what can be done to fisheries with steep banks. Difficulty in access can also be exaggerated (not only when the banks are wet but also) during exceptionally dry periods.

Tough conditions - low water and high sun. DB took a good grayling mid-morning on a heavy nymph fished NZ style in fast water; approx 1.5-2lb and in great condition. SB lost another just before lunch on a heavy nymph. Not much surface movement.

After lunch some splashy rises started to appear - couple of half-hearted attempts at the sedge came to nothing, and there was very little activity there after. DB did take a small WBT on a deep nymph as evening approached, and then lost 2 grayling as the day wound to a close.

A great beat with great access - just needs a flush of water to really bring it to life.

Having caught 40 Chub the day before there were still plenty feeding...only a couple of Barbel but they were both good fish in the 6 to 7lb bracket...We left early for the long trek home and catch the last hour of the cricket on the radio which was one of our better moves!!
