Easterly wind blowing straight up the legnth of the reservoir made all methods of fishing difficult, changed to a spinner....fish on first cast.....the only one ,stayed til midday, wind got stronger so pulled the pin.........

2 x trout 7/8 inches, Duck's Dun. I found this pretty irritating. Has this beat really been adopted, because I see no signs of any trimming maintenance having been carried out in recent years? I found just two or three clear places in the lower part to flick a short cast and managed to get a couple of small trout out of a run. Everywhere else was solidly overgrown, from one side to the other. In fact I suspect I was one of the team which cleared it last, which was either in 2014 or 2015. We had it in quite good order then - and it's a good little stream with plenty of trout. Now the branches meet just above the surface practically all the way up. I didn't bother struggling up the upper part of the channel, but I walked the field above looking down and it was completely overgrown. Maintenance needs to be done if this is to be offered on the Wild Streams scheme.

WUF Note : Thanks for this feedback, we will be looking into the maintenance issues.

Although the description suggests that wading is not necessary I would contend that it is to get the most out the beat. Overgrown bankside vegetation and lack of casting space would make fishing and navigating the beat very difficult indeed without the ability to wade through sections of the river particularly at the lower end.
In fact the lower end is the most productive whereas upstream of the weir showed little signs of fish being present.
4 trout caught by small dry flies.

First time to this venue. I struggled to locate the fish to be honest. Arrived about 3pm and walked up and down the stretch. Very hot day. Baited a few swims and fished them all for next 3 hours without a knock. I settled into swim near tree line around 7:30 and had one lovely barbel at 8lb and another under 5lb on oozing pellets. Huge eel too. River looked good, bit colour and not so low. Maybe an off day or I’m doing something wrong. It’s a learning curve at new venues as always. Back in couple weeks to try again. Nice countryside and really lovely venue. The M50 being shut on way home was bit tough going.

First return to this stretch for a couple of years. Astounding change, there are now dozens of really good swims where previously access to the water was limited to the Croy and about 3 others. Weather very hot and sunny and most fish taken on the Croy in faster turbulent water but also caught Barbel and Chub in the first field at the bottom of the hill particularly after the sun dropped below the bank. The new owner has done a stunning job and we will definitely be back. It helped having a Sherpa to carry some of my gear back up the hill. It is definitely a stretch on which to travel light.

Meat proved to be the best bait although also caught on pellet.
