Just tried for an hour this evening - water still coloured enough to make wading pretty treacherous, but I guess just about viable for fishing. I had a nice 11" fish from the Escley/Monnow junction pool, the kingfisher went past me and up the Escley, and I decided that was about as good as it was going to get today!

The start of my fairytale debut on Wye turned out to be an absolute nightmare! The day before booking I took my wife and son for walk on public footpath area of beat only for my wife to slip on the heart attack hill area near woods on the wet mud after substantial rain and break her wrist! Please be careful in this whole area Angler’s , it is lethal when wet !
As for the fishing I returned the following morning at daybreak starting at hut but with river 1.3m up my 4 ounce feeder wouldn’t hold as river was pulling so hard so I found a slack a few swims upstream, a switch from pellet to meat saw me bank a 4.4 and 4.8 Chub in quick succession but then had to pack up and leave to take wife to the fracture clinic. I returned at 1400 and went on to catch 3 Barbel , 7.7, 6 and 5.10 plus 3 more Chub about 3 1/2 lb a piece , plus an Eel which spewed out nearly a can on luncheon meat all over me! I also lost another Eel at net and another Barbel , all on Meat.
Wife situation aside this beat is fantastic and so easy to access , as river was so high the woods were not fishable , packing a rope to pull myself up bank attached to bankstick was invaluable , thank you WUF, just wish I had the whole day ! The wildlife is outstanding , cannot wait to return without the broken bones !

Booking Office Note: We're glad you enjoyed your day, and hope your wife's wrist heals quickly!
