Fished on the bottom crib , pinning hemp and caster I managed a dace a trot for around an hour from 0600 hrs and soon got bored with the minute size of the fish. Went on the method with just about everything legal on the hook till around 1300 and kept getting knocks from the same fish with no Chub let alone Barbel turning up for the show, wrapped up and went walkabout down the field swims and especially to espy the famous" fast flowing Swan Pool ", very strange --- couldn't really see it, definitely couldn't get down to it, I could hear the rowdy morons paddling through it though. Very peaceful and pleasant it was during the hours before the " common herd " arrived. A warning to those booked on tomorrow --- take your long handled shears and strimmers with you. My newish T6 came home with a full length scratch from brambles growing across the track down the last part of the hill, you might also want to cut your own swim out in one of those famous pools, if you fish where I was, you could "number 2" the overhead branches. It's well baited up though !!! I would seriously love to fish this beat under normal conditions, there was around a foot and a half fining down today with a strong flow and colour , I should have caught and no excuses, but without seeing it in its low state you really have no idea how to tackle the job in a non-normal situation. I won't be back here, the surroundings are magnificent , the maintenance is dire.

Grabbed a few hours this evening and the river higher than a few days ago. Such a beautiful beat. 3 decent size Grayling caught on a ptn, larger one (of course) lost to a dodgey knot.

A few hours in the morning; good flow and a very quiet feel to this beat, always in a tunnel of trees. Some good fish too - of the eight that actually made it to hand, four were in the 12-14" bracket, best nudging 1lb. Lost at least the same number.

Afternoon session following on from Pandy in the morning. A different feel to this beat - initially slightly more public (gardens, signs of dog walkers) but most of it on more open farmland. Just me and the cows. A lot of very promising water, some of it quite fast at the downstream end but wider and slower above the weir. More good wild stream fish in evidence - eight at 6-14" including the best fish of the day, definitely 1lb!

Bright day, river fairly quiet. A few rises around lunch time and more activity around 6pm under clouds of midges. Fished small dries. What a lovely beat!

River dropped over night and was much clearer. We caught throughout the day on a number of methods from several swims. Lovely beat although access to swims is a bit treacherous in wet conditions

Perfect conditions today, with the water ,the colour of a good brew ,before the milk and at a height of .75m after a 2 metre spate . It was worth coming all this way , even just for a few hours. With the knowledge that a few salmon had been seen , every cast was laden with expectation ; the take , was it that the bow in the line would stop moving downstream or start going upstream (strip in line quick ), a savage take ,or just , fish on ? Well , no take, that piece was missing , in fishing you don’t need all the pieces to complete the puzzle. I had a wonderful few hours in paradise and ...a bit of luck,I found my club hammer that I’d left on the bank before the spate.
