Grabbed a couple of hours this morning before rain arrived and started about halfway along the beat. All of the recent tree clearance has certainly opened up the access to the river! Managed 4 lively and well marked trout. No grayling today. 3 to nymph under Klinkhammer, the last one shot up and nailed the olive Klinkhammer. Lovely.

4 x trout 8-10 inches, Goldbead Hare's Ear nymph. Pretty fat little trout. I saw only one fish rise, but got him with the nymph. I only did the lower bit, bottom to the road bridge, before rain came in. Access to this one is now a little complicated. Farming folk suggested parking in the farmyard - which is a sea of mud at the moment - is best done on the left, on the piece of hard standing between the two cow sheds on the left side. From there the track down to the river leads through one field full of frisky cows defensive of new calves - "keep an eye on them," said farming folk - and another field with a long-horned bull - " keep an eye on HIM" said farming folk. I do appreciate this agricultural advice no end, I must say. So I kept an eye.

Booking office note: Thanks for the update, we'll be sure to include that update in the beat info...

Much cooler day than recently and with showery rain. The occasional fish showing all day on the surface with a consistent hatch of olives. Fish taken at top and bottom of the beat on dry fly and nymph - so a pretty good day all round. Several different techniques used including dry, New Zealand, downstream and upstream nymph. Fish caught on copper john, Weighted PTN, grannom dry fly, small sedge, green Peter.

Morning weather was as forecast, showers and moderate wind. However the wind got up during the day and was howling upstream after lunch rendering beat 4 and 5 unfishable with fly or spinner. Beat 3 seemed to be sheltered and was fishable all day with the fly. Had a couple of trout on briefly and had various pulls and plucks. No fish seen. River low. One day I'll get it right.....
