Very few rising trout, despite plenty of sand martins about. Used dry fly and caught 4 trout. 2 were small, the other 2 were just over the pound and I kept them. They both carried cormorant damage. I uprighted a ewe which was cast on her back. Farmer thanked me. Several goosanders on the river.

Fantastic day out courtesy of extremely helpful beat owner Pari, with tuition and extra kit from Justin Connelly (which was even more impressive considering we only decided to come the evening before!). Beat and river were in great condition, about .72 on the gauge. Really healthy fly life with hatches throughout the day, and trout rising. An accidental trout , a big pull, and a big splashy take kept things interesting. We will certainly be back.

Wonderful day on the Wye. What a magnificent river and what a magnificent springer. Fishing out the tail of the rock pool at 2ft on the gauge. A 1 inch snaelda caskade tube did the trick. A relatively gentle, but solid take and then off it went like the Flying Scotsman! A very special experience to catch a Wye spring salmon with birdsong filling the air and bluebells on the bank. I was warned by a wise man that this spring salmon lark is addictive. I am already planning the next trip to the Wye although I fear for the future of salmon in the UK what with climate change affecting sea surface temperatures and big reductions in marine survival. Will my boy be able to catch a Wye spring salmon when he is my age....? Well if the Wye and Usk Foundation have anything to do with it, what with their stirling work, then yes with luck. This 9lb salmon was very fresh and in great condition. No other fish seen or touched all day. A torpedo. Carefully returned and it went off like a rocket! Thank you WUF for a day in heaven.

LDO CDC dun, BWO Para dun, Pale Watery Para dun, Baetis Nymph. A steady trickle of LDO's from 12-2.30pm saw fish rising and the majority of fish came to a CDC dun imitation.

Nil caught. Barely a sign of a fish, but the day was saved by an extremely close encounter with an otter. Access is difficult for much of the stretch.
