Very bright. Breathless. 1 wbt early on before the sun burnt the mist away. 2 on for a while and then off. Then just got very bright and tricky. Pulled stumps at 2pm to get back to London.

3 x trout 10-13 inches, 10 x grayling 10-14 inches, Pink Shrimp, Tungsten Hare's Ear, F-Fly. First a cold mist, then a glorious sunny autumn day in what must be our loveliest valley. The fishing was initially rather slow (I started with nymphs due to the cold morning) but perked up when I switched to dry fly mid-afternoon. I met my friend the resident otter twice.

Decided after working my last night shift to have another crack at the lovely Lugg beat at Litton , so having meandered around roadworks on the outskirts of Leominster and Pembridge eventually got to Lower Litton farmhouse at one !!!! Lovely weather , sunny, a slight breeze ,and when I got down to the stream , plenty of insect activity , with sedges and upswings in abundance . . . .

Tied on an eighteen Parachute Adams and to be honest no real interest in the first two decent pools and not a touch in the riffley water either . . . . Change fly to tan klinkhammer , and had a savage take of a beautifully marked brownie , about ten inches and tubby too !!!

Next trout Also took the klinkhammer with ferocity , and superbly marked as well , again perhaps ten or eleven inches , things were looking good . However sport slowed down and it seemed that the fish were instantly of the boil and refused several dry patterns , and no interest in nymphs either . . . . .

Had a chill out were the huge old willow straddles the stream , sat there had a smoke and pondered my next move ! On with a larger Adams , seemed to do the trick , nice splashy rise in the broken water , dooooooh !!!, missed him , then the next two in a row , eventually contacting with the fourth fish , scrappy little fighter , of about eight inches . . . .

A fun few hours , and a nice way to spend the afternoon on your Birthday , didn't quite make it to the top end of the beat , as had to get back to the Ponderosa , as "Mrs A "had organised a nice meal at The Riverside Inn , what could be better to finish of a lovely day , three beautifully marked Lugg brownies , followed by some posh nosh at The Riverside with my other half , spot on . . . . . .

Arrived at midday with only a short time to fish. River was very clear and there was a good flow. Water marks on the high banks still showing how high the river must have been during the recent rain.

Managed to tempt 4 Grayling but it was difficult fishing. Quite a bit of fly life but didn’t see a rise all afternoon (except at my fly). Usual wildlife spotted and still a great afternoon out in the sunshine despite the difficult conditions. Thanks

A cool downstream wind blowing, so I knew it would be challenging. My persistence paid off with a fat 17 incher and a couple of 10 inchers.

A beautiful autumn day fishing this lovely fly water, but no salmon seen or touched, despite optimism following last week's spate. The path to the uppermost pool, past the new lodge, is dodgy in dry weather and would be hazardous on a wet day with high water. Other reports have commented on the wonky style. The beat would really benefit from a hut, although the Gromain owner kindly let us use the old Ty Newydd hut at the bottom of the beat which is now part of Gromain.

My favorite Wye and Usk water given the scenery and peace and quiet.Bright sunny day with the river dropping and very little colour. The chub responded well to pellet , we all fished the float. two barbel later in the day. A stunning place to fish.
