Back to The Rocks which is becoming a favourite. A blustery, chilly wind; low and dropping water level; little hatch; and me being a bit rusty/clumsy after the off-season; all made for a challenging day. Two 8” trout to hand using dry plus dropper, but all the spots that gave up loads last October, didn’t today!
I took a bit of “phone a friend” advice from JE from Kingston and went down and across some runs with a pair of heavy nymphs. Bingo - a 14” WBT and a 14” Grayling to hand. Should have done that all day :-(

First time one the beat. Conditions looked ideal, caught a Shad on a vibrax swiftly returned. 2 salmon seen in Cadora Pool. No contacts on either fly or spinner. Big shoal of mullet on the beat. Fantastic day fished from 5am. Hopefully with big tides building for the weekend more fish will arrive????

The Lugg looked promising. when I arrived early morning, the level at 1ft 2 Ins on gauge. I fished a pair of nymphs for 5 hours catching 3 trout and 3 grayling, no rising fish were seen. The Lugg can be a slow starter and I am sure in another couple of weeks will fish a lot better. Lyepole is a beautiful beat, with a symphony of birdsong as an accompaniment.

A generally good day, but the wind was quite strong, and casting was very difficult at times. My friend DH forgot his wading boots! Sigh..... He managed to find a few areas that he could cast from and make a day out of it.
Many trout were caught - about 25 in total, none of them big but better to see new fish thriving. No Salmon seen.

Black gnats hatching throughout the day but few fish rising to them. Bullocks in the field are very lively!

Beautiful stretch of water with lots of interesting features. Plenty of fly life although no fish rising with any regularity. Cool northerly wind took the edge of the weather. Had several bumps from fish on nymphs and managed 1 lovely 1.5lb brown behind the downstream island on a green klinkhammer.
Sand Martin’s, dipper, Merganser with 17 ducklings and yellow wagtail seen.
Great afternoon and evening.
Access could do with a trim!
May have left a black box of flies somewhere if any kind soul manages to find them!

Booking Office note: If anyone does find the box, please ring us at 01874 712074 and we will help to re-home it.
