Had no option in terms of what time I could fish - went first thing for a couple of hours, thereby managing to fish in the rain. Quite a rarity in the summer of 2018! Had a few rises to a rusty klinkhammer - just the one stuck, the attractively marked 11" pictured. Bent the 3wt nicely; shame I couldn't spend longer there. Perhaps another trip in search of sewin when the water level changes!

Fished the fast water right at the bottom of the beat for 3 hours in the morning. 3 Chub caught on freelined meat. Packed up to go home early as water too low and clear to muster enthusiasm. This is a fabulous little beat and well worth a visit

Day 2 of our pilgrimage.
We mainly fished down near the confluence with the Lugg. Nothing came from the usual spot where the water was far less turbulent in the very low flow. But we winkled out a few from under the trees a few yards upstream and a beautiful little chub came from trotted bread flake off one of the croys.
Already planning next year's trip!

All caught on a 'clink and dink' arrangement, with all fish taking the nymph - a very small pheasant tail gold head

Started at 4.30am - no bites! - went back to bed during the unbearable heat of the day. Fished again from late afternoon. First Barbel landed around 8pm. As dusk approached fish came on and we had six more fish in a frantic period before it was too dark to continue. All on ledgered small pellets. May be the very small amount of rain the previous evening had livened them up - 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.0 8.0, 8.5, 8.5lb. Also an eel of about 1lb.
We stayed in the Static Caravan up at the farm a short walk (or drive) away from the river. Spartan but perfect for fishermen looking for somewhere with all facilities required for a comfortable, convenient stay. We will return.
