The river was in spate so a wash-out of a day. Too dangerous to try and get into the water. Also many trees down blocking access.

The brook was full and muddy after all the recent rain.
Nothing rising, but 5 trout in 2hrs to a pheasant tail nymph. 8-10 inch all in the deeper pools.

I arrived early in heavy rain, high winds, 8 degrees and white horses breaking all over the lake, so wasn't overly optimistic. Fished from the damn up the east bank using trad wets and nymph/buzzer teams but with no joy. By lunchtime the wind had died down and temperatures climbed slightly which set off a decent sedge and caddis hatch but didn't see a single fish rise all day. I concentrated my afternoon at the damn wall as it was more sheltered and caught a very small but beautifully marked trout on a black pennell at point fly. I had another on shortly after but it quickly came off again. The west and northern east banks have a really wild feel about them and i cant wait to come back hopefully in better weather.

Saturday wasn't good as I've expected. So many bites on a float or from the bottom. My favorite trout spoons and spinners didn't work at all. Fish was too lazy to attack anything fast moving.

Well with all the rivers out of play , I was debating whether to give Gwgia a bash or Beacons , in the end plumbed for Beacons reservoir; bowled up at about half ten , overcast slight drizzle petering out to nearly nothing , a lovely trouty ripple and reading thirteen degrees in my truck , sorted , a good start !!!!!!

Tackled up with my old nine foot six weight Orvis , and a team of wets I always swear by as my wild brownie rig , and got going , obviously the reservoir was topped right up with fresh water , the amount of rain we've had this last week , and driving there , the Llynfi looked like melted chocolate over Pontithel !!!!!!!! So a nice change being on the reservoir instead of the confines of the Arrow or the Lugg , and sport was bang on once I'd found the fish , and the retrieve they wanted . . . . .

Smash takes on my home tied wets , lovely sport too , all gorgeous fish , ranging from twelve to sixteen inches , absolute beauties .And I've found a real hotspot that they like too , if you explore when your there you'll find it too , smashing sport , seven lovely brownies caught and released this morning .

During the five hours I was there , had a couple of crackers not quite made it to the net , but that's how it's goes . . . At oneish some rises also appearing fairly far out , but with sport pretty consistent with what I had on , I stayed with the wets just sub surface . . . . Still a fair bit of rubbish on the A470 side , bit of a shame , I took one bag full home with me , if everyone did that it would soon be nice and tidy , it's such a pity folks have to dump their burger cartons and drinks bottles , oh and up at the top end there appears to be the remains of a tent , now that's been there for an age !!!! Thought the MTAA club may have done a quick tidy up to be honest !!

A superb few hours here , and it didn't rain once , the time I was there , how flukey is that !!!!! It did driving home through Bronllys . . . . And I didn't even stop for a cake and a coffee at the Honey Cafe , now that was being extremely disciplined , ha ha !!!!! Next time though , a fun day on the reservoir , back soon . . . . . . . Great fun !!!!
