Last time I was here the fish I caught had been through the wars, and now I know why. Two lovely otters spotted near the top end of the beat. As beautiful (and rare) as they are, they've always given me awful luck in regards to fishing. I presume they've munched a good percentage of the fish at the top end of the beat, or certainly at the very least they've made the fish incredibly spooky.
Will try a different beat in the coming weeks, these otters don't fill me with much hope of landing a good fish in the near future!

The Arrow was looking clear and running at a fair old pace when I turned up at about half nine , had a initial mooch just above the weir , one small grayling seen , boding well for the quick session this morning . . . . . Overcast to begin with , ten degrees and a few small insects already on the move !!!!

Slipped into the river down by the bridge working my way slowly upstream , clear water and up a bit , which was surprising as no significant rain locally for a while . . . Didn't get a touch on small nymphs till the weir pool , then had one small feisty six inch brownie , quickly slipped back in .

Did give a kick sample into my net , and a surprising amount in the fine mesh at the bottom of my net , promising to see , and also nice to see four sightings of kingfishers up and down the Arrow , busy busy !!!! Bumble bees , rooks in the trees above , the race is on !!!!!!

Did have a brief nose up on the section above the weir , almost like two rivers here , seems like it would almost be better without that weir , as far as the fish goes , but I guess it's been there since the year dot so we have to find tactics around it !!!!! Has some nice Chubb in there in the warm summer months !

Shall head here again when the mayfly are having a disco !!!! A fun two hours on this stretch , Two days to go , yippeeeeee , back soon !

Colder day after the last week of unseasonably warm weather. Fished the faster water to start but other than a couple of chub it was slow going. Moved back towards the deeper water and it was there we found the barbel. Fishing single small pellet and feeding very little did the trick with the majority of the fish coming at the end of the day. The barbel were in the 5-7lb range, the chub 2-3lb and fin perfect as usual. All in all a good days fishing for this time of year and as usual the venue never disappoints, will be back in the new season.

3 Barbel, 4 Chub
