Might have been lots of fish but the weather didn't cooperate--a deluge combined with a thunderstorm and lightning meant we decided not to fish. Will rebook soon. Love this river.

The best small stream fishing I have ever experienced. I lost track of the exact number of trout I caught, but I can confidently say it was the most in any day of my fishing carer.
Most fish were 5 to 7 inches with the occasional larger trout. All were in perfect condition.
All but one trout were caught on bead head GRHE (size 14 or 16).
At about 4pm the sun came out and there was a hatch (quite large greeny yellow upwings, I'm no entomologist), and I caught one fish on a similar looking dry fly.
The most effective method was a sort of upstream nymphing with a retrieve slightly faster than the current to help aid bite detection, but due to the size of the river, tactics were dependent on the amount of room to cast.
Definitely worth the three and a half hour drive

Well as I bowled up at the lovely Kington beat at about quarter to nine , the sun was poking through , a little cool , but things looked good , reading twelve degrees in my truck , so not bad at all , rigged up my usual small streams ; six foot two weight beauty and opted for a rusty Para Adams initially . A very memorable day , and how things would have been different seventy five years ago , those young chaps risking all for us , i take my hat off to them , a few quiet moments of thought , then cracked on !!
No mayfly about , as expected at nine bells in the morning , and I only saw one all the time I was there , so looks like the big rave of the other day may be petering out big time !!!!!! That said , trout were looking up , and took my Adams , and grey Wulff , with the lovely aggressive hits that the Arrow fish do !!! Spot on , a few rises by half ten , and some upwing activity then also , Great stuff !!! Also prospecting the little fly , had some lovely splashy takes too , and in the tally some fish of around twelve inches , but most were between eight and ten inches , great little fighters and colours that looked superb in the bright morning sun . . . . . . . . .
The tricky section were the river meanders round to the right , and flows slowly , had a nice fish tucked tight in to the side , bit of stalking tactics , and catapult cast my fly , two attempts , and then bingo , in his sight picture , nailed it , lovely run around on the tiny rod , good twelve inch fish !!!
The upper section was really good fishing today too , lots of rises by half eleven , and some nice fish too , tubby and with plenty of poke , had fish right up to Malhallom bridge , the last one was right under the bridge , which I cast too , he nailed the grey Wulff , and was a feisty little seven inch fish , a superb morning , fourteen brought to the net , a few missed and a few long range releases , really good fun on the Arrow , as always , roll on the rain tomorrow , had twenty mins drizzle in two bouts over the four hours but nothing to write home about , a decent downpour is needed to raise the very low river levels , a fun four hours back here very sooooooooon , spot on !!!!!!
