Exceptionally mild day and river wadeable for most of its length. TH and MH had a grayling each and lost at least one other. Several oos trout caught. Goldhead and other nymphs fished in teams. Bearing in mind reports of a dip in numbers of fish caught on Skenfrith beat in recent times, we felt this was a pretty good day on the river.

2 x grayling 13 and 14 inches, trotting. A warm, windy day with cloud but the fishing was unaccountably difficult. Also two fish came off before I could see what they were.

The Grayling were off the feed today ( post Christmas blues?). I did manage one 15" Grayling around midday on a Czech nymph.

A return to the Courtfield beat of the Wye. Another mild day and previous night. Started later than anticipated due to a visit to the vets for my dog! Fished top meadow with my usual boilie/pellet attack on one rod and tried maggots on the other. Not a touch on the maggots ( probably presentation due to fishing heavier than normal because of the countless snags that litter the Wye) but ended up with a barbel just shy of 8lb and 3 chub all over 4lb to 4lb 10oz.

Another enjoyable session on the river and looking forward to the warm days of summer!

Similar to the Irfon catch return of 2 January, I tried every area possible with both fly and trotted maggot, but could not locate the grayling despite the river being in perfect condition. .
