I think I should have started earlier than 11 as it was all over by 1. A few olives and sedges around when I started and occasional Trout rising. 6 Trout to 10 inches caught on a DHE. Switched to nymph after lunch but apart from a few pulls nothing else caught. 23 degrees when I finished we'll soon need some rain!

Lovely day on the water. Best conditions early morning before Sun became strong about 11am. Saw one fish jump in ash tree pool about 8am. Thought I got a pull at bottom of little run mid afternoon but no reward. Did have an eel 2ft long swim over my boots which was interesting.

Once again Mick the beats guide put me on a fish even in the bright sunshine. But it did not stick and the shfc came back after a brief encounter.

Spent the first hour towards the bottom of the beat spooting and stalking fish. Managed to hook one of about a pound but didnt manage to land it. Rest of the fish all came to nymphs in the fast water by the island.

A beautiful day for a walk in the country but not for flyfishing. I wouldn’t normally wet a line in these conditions but this is meant to be a fishing holiday, so on went the Factor 30. Miraculously, a few fish were seen rising in the shadier spots and three nice trout (14”,14”13”) were landed on comparadun and Klinkhamer. Shame that a faulty gearbox put paid to my friend’s outing.

Amazing stretch of river, with loads of wildlife and some fantastic trout habitat. Caught a perfect conditioned 14 inch trout, on the dry with a black gnat pattern. Hot, bright day and only saw two fish rising. Will definetly return.
