A relatively quick visit to a beat that keeps on making us return season after season. 7 to hand 1 to net lots of misses and a few slipping the hook left both fishermen grinning on the walk back to the car.
Thank you to WUF again and also a special thanks to Dave and Heather at The Trout Inn Beulah for their great hospitality, nothing was too much trouble and the food was excellent, Heathers breakfast is legendary! Well done guys.

River low and very clear. Clouds of Black Gnats and Sedges, with many rising fish, how ever, they were fixated on something, which we later found out were spent flies, possibly BWO's as they were small with mauve wings. With a combination of very small dry flies and nymphs, we caught 6 fish, best 2lbs 1.25lbs. In Chain Pool we noted a female Goosander with a flotilla of nine chicks ! ! !

1.5lb Rainbow Trout caught on a dry fly - black hopper.
Very warm day with lots of sunshine, fresh breeze off the reservoir making lots of ripples on the water.

Although two rods were planned for the day, in the event only one of us fished. What a lovely stretch of water and so scenic. I only fished the bottom stretch of this beat below where it becomes more wooded. There was little sign of surface life, just the occasional rise but to what was unclear. I fished a variety of Adams and Klinkhammer flies but with no interest from the few rising fish. I noticed one regular and very subtle rise under the far bank under the trees just above the bottom pool. Again no interest in my Adams and Klinkhammer so I tried an olive emerger and first cast there was a violent grab for my fly and I had hooked a substantial fish. In fact, it turned out to be a personal best WBT: close to 20" long but no idea what weight, maybe a couple of pounds? A beautiful fish indeed and despite catching nothing else for the rest of the day I came away well satisfied. One thing perplexes me a bit: the fish was taking flies (I imagine) just below the surface in a very gentle manner so why such a big show in taking my fly?

Last day of a 4 day trip. Familiar story, too little water, made this beat very challenging and hard to locate any fish. Managed 3 wbt on a size 16 olive but retired early and headed back up the M4.
Cracking 4 days, fished so many different fishing situations and tactics - the mighty Wye, wild mountain streams and that hidden away hilltop Llyn. Where else could you do that for little more than £50 and a 3 hour drive from London! Thank you WUF.

Blissful day to be on the river. Parachute Adams was the only dry fly used which got fish up when surprisingly there were not that many rises. Lured the larger trout from the deeper pools with gold head nymph NZ style. All Trout between 4 and 9", the takes were lightening quick which took me a while to get tuned into, great sport all day.

Fished up from parking by bridge for a couple of hours. Cows in the river meant I had to start above them and missed a couple of previously quite productive pools. River had a good flow and a sporadic hatch. I tried several patterns but all three fish caught to dry blue winged olive with two out of three at 10". I was involved in clearing this stream over the winter and in parts I wondered if we could have been a bit more thorough!
