Unfortunately we only had time for a few hours fishing in the morning, caught 1 eel of about 2lb and lost one good fish.

Difficult day. The only fish that appeared to be active were dace and small chub. The dace managing to take an 8mm bait.
1 barbel foul hooked in the pectoral and 1 good pike that grabbed a hooked dace, eventually biting through the line.

A great place to visit on a breezy September day...we were not alone with that idea because about 200 Canadian Geese turned up too!! The river looked in reasonable shape...still low but a touch of colour and flow gave us some confidence in catching. Sport was steady all day mainly from Chub and there were quite a few chublets and Dace here too despite the presence of a couple of "you know who" perched on a dead tree on the opposite bank. We also bagged our first Wye Perch ..not a whopper but a feisty beautiful fish of about 6oz. Thanks to the owners and WUF for providing this attractive well maintained beat.

We had visited in May on a very bright and blustery day and not done that well. So, we were excited about the overcast weather and hoped for better results. Four fish each caught - all fighting-fit Llyn trout around 12". Most caught to dry but a couple to wet. We will keep trying for one of those 20 fish days!

5 members of Charfield Angling Association enjoyed a day on the beats of Gromain, Ty-Newdd and Langoed. Approximately 60-70 fish between us, with trout and grayling to about 12". Quite a few smaller fish. Most fish caught on nymphs, a few on dries when there was a brief hatch in the afternoon. A few fish were rising about 6pm, and we managed one chub and one dace from the back eddy on the far side of the pool outside the fishing hut on Gromain. Very few fish rising during the day. One salmon seen. The fishing boards on Gromain have recently been replaced, and the paths have been cleared. Thanks for that. The afore-mentioned style at Ty-Newdd was exciting. Enjoyed bacon rolls cooked in the fishing hut in the morning. Thanks for making it available.
