Bitterly cold day. Few light winter showers. No interest shown at car park beat on any method. Moved to Dam corner at 11.30. To get out of bitingly cold wind. Grandson landed nice fish on bubble and worm and later a Crayfish from the margins (nuisance). No other activity.

Cold day but a sporadic hatch and a couple of rising trout gave hope. River level OK and water fairly clear. More activity at the bottom end. Only one rise to a dry fly on the day with fish very choosy despite the moderate flows in the river. Both fish caught on stonefly type nymphs. Various methods tried with down and across prospecting the more successful. Fingers crossed for warmer weather.

Cold spring day but river in perfect condition, 1'6 on the gauge and running clear. One very fresh Salmon measured 38", est 21lbs landed from Lady Alexanders Catch at 1400 on a silver cone head Snaelda. Thank you.

Water was clearing nicely throughout the day and dropping from 0.84m so I can only blame the gusty winds, (and my insistence on sticking with the fly rod for the greater part of the day), as fish were taken spinning just upstream!
Did have a pull on the SHFC later on and one WBT, but I won't mention it as it wasn't that much bigger than the lure.
Booked for next week too so with luck the conditions will improve, the wading become less "interesting" and the better fly sections accessible..... Watch this space!

Water still too high but clarity was good. Resorted to spinning the upper parts of the beat for the day. No fish seen but had a close encounter with an otter late in the day.

A very cold day but despite this there were flurries of rising fish. Our morning was spent matching salmon rods and lines for an imminent holiday to Scotland, however later on those rising fish and olive hatches tempted us to pick up our trout rods. We caught the fish on dry flies; grey duster and cdc emerger.

After looking forward to a fishing trip with a few mates to the Wye, I unfortunately did my back in and couldn’t make it. My friends managed a few small fish, hopefully I will be there soon.
