Cold and wet start, rain cleared by midday but remained overcast, chilly and breezy for most of the afternoon. Very little fly life, but a handful of olive upwings spotted in odd brighter spells.

We tried some dries - olives and pale wateries - with no success so mainly concentrated on nymphs. The most successful set up was a three fly rig - red and purple beadhead nymph on the point, plover spider in the middle and an olive emerger on top - fished across the faster water towards the top of the beat like a team of North County spiders. 4 grayling and 1 OOS brown trout from 6-9" came in a short period after 1630 (two on the emerger, the rest on the point fly). The other two grayling, around 6" and 10" came to a single red and brown nymph.

We both had a couple of big pulls and a brief fight in the tail end of Llangoed pool. One jumped and looked to be a decent trout, not sure about the others. We then saw two salmon break the surface, one looked around 8lbs, the other a little bigger.

lovely spot, alot of rain of the first day, fishing was a bit slow, but managed to get a few chub and one barbel, really good access to swims and plenty of them, was nice to catch a few grayling as well on the maggot feeder.

2 barbel on luncheon meat, largest 6lb 7 oz beautiful fish. Lost 4 good fish in the morning in the weed... the river was fast as fished in the rapids above the pool on the last croy reachable...thoroughly enjoyed it except for the persistent rain and wind until about 2.30 pm..

River low and clear. Bottom end of stretch. A solitary chub and 2 barbel including a stunner of 11.7 Back at the pub we discovered the swim had yielded 14 chub the previous day which explains why things were a little slow...
