A stunning beat with good access. We fished mainly upstream of the line of trees and battled very high temperatures, bright sunlight and high pressure all day. Despite this the padawan winkled out two beautiful barbel including a PB of 8/6 while the "master" just roasted in the sun. The usual tactics were successful (for one) and everything bar the kitchen sink failed for the other. We saw a couple of anglers on the opposite bank but each gave the other space and respect. Overall a truly wonderful 3 days on the majestic Wye - now an established annual pilgrimage from West Yorkshire - long may it continue. Huge thanks to WUF - undoubtedly one of our hero organisations in an uncertain world.

A size 16 Hares Ear Beaded Nymph proved to be the perfect fly on this pleasant outing at Lyepole. The weather wasn't ideal for fishing, being the hottest day of the year so far! But river conditions were very good, with the faster, deeper sections supplying all the fish caught. The majority of the fish caught (11 grayling and 4 trout) were around the 1lb mark or less, but 3 of the grayling were around the 1.75 lb mark and provided a good challenge to land. This is a beautiful stretch of river, but be aware that the bankside is overgrown along the majority of the beat, so you will need to do some deep wading, or beat your way through vegetation to get at all the fishable swims.

I was very surprised to find the river up by at least 2ft and horribly coloured. There had been no recent rain which was a bit confusing. I later discovered that a dam had been opened somewhere to facilitate a flush through. Fishing was a struggle and combined with the hot conditions, I packed up at around 2pm.
(WUF note: the extra water was due to rain up country)

River had risen several feet over night and was coloured. Could hold bottom with 90 grm feeders and had intermittent action during the day on pellets.

First time on this stretch lovely piece of water. Fished upper beat above wood due to anglers on opposite bank just the way it goes! River in good nick but it did rise steadily through the day. Two barbel, the first pushing double figures the second around 6lb and a couple of chub all fish fighting fit and healthy all on pellet and feeder top day!

Another good day on the Wye, shame the chub were so active getting to the bait before the barbel. I had 10 barbel and 19 chub, David had 9 barbel and 37 chub. Fishery well maintained as always.

Again a second visit to this beat but unfortunately over night rain increased river level to about 2 feet with very coloured water. Tried an hour Polish nymphing but couldn't get into the main stream as current too strong. Glad to know it was the river conditions not the fishing
that beat me this time.

Day started with a rather blustery morning, but things settled around 2pm. A couple to the dry fly, but eventually the sun became to much so switched to nymphs in the deeper channels which was a good choice. A lovely days fishing.
