Fished as part of a two venue day. Arrived early to warm weather. River is as low as I have ever seen it making fishing difficult. Worked my way to the top of the beat without seeing or taking a fish. On my return to the car I decided to try a couple of spots that have always been favourites if mine. Low and behold fishing rising in both. Put on a size 14 parachute adams and took two 8" WBT from the first area. Moved down further near the property on the left bank. No takes on the Adams. I was about to give up but changed fly to Waterhen Bloa dressed as a dry. Instant reaction and another 8" WBT. Back to car and off to second venue Upper Grywne Fawr.

My first time here. I had fished Upper Longtown in the morning a thought I would try this river before moving down to the Dinas beat on the Usk the following day. What a superb river. Wading the fast tumbling water was carried out with great care...and wading stick. I fished a very short line upstream using a two spider rig anchored by a weighted PTN. One fish caught in a fast riffle about twenty yards up from the bridge. All the rest were taken closer to the fallen tree and in the slacker water above the riffles. I only fished for two hours but will most certainly return next year and give myself time to fish more of this fantastic and challenging stretch of water.

Nice days fishing but a tough beat to conquer for finding Mr Trout late August. A pleasant day on the river Wye but unfortunately no catch. Further up river I think next time. Some very big Chub past locksters pool down stream and seeing big pike late in evening at the pool.
