went in search of the grayling today and brought 20+ to hand . lugg down to its bones now with very little flow and clear waters which made for a tricky day. with only the odd rise i fished size 18 2mm bead jig gently bouncing bottom. size wise all between 6-14 inches with most on the smaller side 7-10 inches. all the trout bar one were around 12 inches. still shocked after the weather tuesday and wednesday water levels have dropped not held or risen.

we arrived to find the river very low at the creel this was our first time on this beat, the banks were dangerous and swims were very limited only one set of steps at the start of the beat. From a health & safety aspect this is not good we had 1 barbel & 2 chub very unlikely we will return here as anglers safety appears to be very low on the wye & usks agenda

Low water, but great beat. Weather was blowy and intermittent drizzle. Lots of rising fish. Very spooky and we didn't crack the code!

Great day's fishing. Settled in a swim half way down left bank and started fishing at approx 1:00 pm after a late decision to fish this beat. Swims were easily accessible which was a pleasant change from last week. Bites pretty much every cast as the fish were in feeding mode. Barbel ranged from 1.5 pounds up to 9 pounds. Meat and sweetcorn was the order of the day although the only fish caught on pellet was the biggest. Several snags meant I lost a few fish and a number of feeders but all in all an enjoyable day.

Last day of trip river had dropped but still very weedy. Another majestic day at middle hill court, 12 barbel largest 8lb 2oz and a lovely 4lb chub. All fish caught on pellet feeder. Fantastic fishing in one of the most beautiful places on the wye valley.

Idea river levels (great for August) but quite cold and gloomy with persistent drizzle and light rain. All fish bar two came to a size 18 BWO emerger or snipe and purple spider, the other two to a jig nymph fished deep. Many fast rising small grayling either turning before they took the fly or too quick for my reflexes, but the bigger ones connected solidly. Best grayling 12 inches, brown 10 inches, on a spider from the first pool in the Edw. A lovely beat to explore again early or late season.

3 Trout, 7 Grayling
