today was a blank unfortunately , I was shocked because this beat always provides good numbers of fish , didn't get a single knock all day , and the other angler here had blanked to , conditions are really challenging at the minute , the river is very low

Beat:Cadora Backs

Fish were showing at the top crib and in top of Cadora but failed to get any to take, which is about par for the bottom river at the moment.

Tough going...really really tough. Chub and eels far bank from wooded section. Not my favourite stretch and annoyed to see litter strewn down the woodland by the anglers parking areas.

As previous reports have said the river is very hard work at the moment. Not a single knock in 12 hours fishing despite trying different swims, possibly only the second time i have failed to get a bite on the Wye!.
Nice to see the fishery has notices now and well done for the new steps making access safer.
Please note there is a caravan rally in the bottom field at the moment.

river running clear one grilse 4lbs from Madox on the fly , but more interesting a dozen teepees on the far bank more like the Little Bighorn than a salmon beat , bring on the 7th cavalry ?

Despite some rain raising the water levels for a while there was a surprising lack of activity across the beat. I saw one salmon splash, but they all must surely be still there and just didn't make an appearance.

On my second trip in a row here, on my first meaningful cast, I caught a 2lb trout... and promptly lost it. Hey ho... I did catch 11 others up to 1/2lb and two dace, I now think they are. The larger one was 1 1/2lb. I'm not up on my coarse fish... this one was yellowish like the belly of a trout but with red fins. A fine fish it was too. The wind was horrendous , blowing all over the place and particularly against every cast I attempted!
