Evening ticket. A salmon in the pool above the bridge treated us to a leap. Trout rising but picky and spooky, as usual. Finally managed a couple each before it was too dark to see. There are some good sized fish, but hard to catch in low clear water that is barely moving. Good challenge on a beautiful beat. Praying for rain now.

Fished from dawn to dusk, 4 Barbel (not big) and 4 medium size chub. Nice place but number of swims are limited which is quite typical of Wye and Usk waters

Only 1 rod fished . Low water (9") and bright sunshine but a salmon was prepared to take the fly in the neck of the spring pool a 8am but it fell off. A lovely 2lb trout from the leaning willow also provided some excitment.

A very hot day, plenty of fly life on the water but little activity. Saw a couple of nice browns cruising but nothing else. First time we have fished this beat and I must say the access to the water was very challenging and banks were overgrown and full fields of crops did not help. Some nice pools but difficult to fish and too deep in places for waders.

Hot day but plenty of shade now, a trickle of flies hatching but nothing rising. Concentrated on the faster runs with a small grey duster para. - my 2.5 lb leader looked like a tow rope in the slow pools! Plenty of smaller trout willing to have a look, most came short or I touched briefly. Managed to land 7, averaging 8" biggest 10", no sign of the bigger brethren. Very nice to get up close to 2 otters making their way downstream - they swam through a small pool I was in and then stopped to look back at me - I suppose they don't see many people on this remote small stream.

Chosen method today was bomb and pellet, 10mm. A steady day with no hectic feeding spell, fish coming out throughout the afternoon/evening that we fished. Another day of bright sunny conditions. Wildlife today included a family of young sparrowhawks.

I only fished a 4 hour evening session with no bites at all. A very scenic stretch of river, but I could only find 3 fishable swims ?

Second trip on this beat in a week and another great day of sport. It was warmer, brighter and water levels had dropped, but this didn't stop the fish from feeding. Apart from a baron spell mid afternoon fish were caught throughout the beat in shallow runs or deeper pockets. Trout ranging from 8" to 15" and grayling pretty much the same. Various flies done the trick from dries, nymphs and spiders. Flies with pheasant tail bodies being the most successful.

5 Trout, 27 Grayling
