2 hour thunderstorm and riding red water didn’t help, but kept at it and caught a nice 3/4 lb Wbt. Some lovely pools to wade up through, but quite a lot of slow and inaccessible stretches in between.
Very few rising in those conditions, but enjoyed the day

Arrived early afternoon post rain and 20minutes in found myself in the middle of a rise all around me. Couldn't tie a dry fly on quick enough! 3rd cast and I had a lovely brown trout with a good fight jumping clear of the water numerous times. They seemed to cotton on to me and after that they went completely quiet. Caught down the bottom end. Two trout evaded me all day up the top end. constantly feeding off the surface. Missed one of them twice through the course of the day on a klinkhammer. Several more misses through the early evening. Just as I was considering calling it a day the middle section woke up and the klink worked. 2 caught in the next 20minutes as a nice mist rolled down onto the river. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and evening. 3 netted, several missed.

After watching the forecast for the bank holiday weekend change from glorious to miserable in the week running up to it, we approached the river with some trepidation. Arriving early, there was a spell from about 08:00-08:30 which felt warm with plenty of fly life. A few splashy rises led to one nice graying on a cdc olive. A cold wind then whipped up, all fly life disappeared and the fish stopped rising which presaged a couple of hours of rain and thunder. In between hiding under trees, we switched to nymphs and had a reasonably steady spell with a few more decent sized fish.

After the storm, the sun came out and the water came alive with bugs, but the fish weren't keen to oblige. A few splashes at various Adams, olive and March Brown dries didn't result in anything sticking and our nymphs were ignored. Around 16:30 we suddenly had 4 in quick succession on a Pale Watery, then all was quiet. Fished until dusk and saw some enormous mayflies, but not much was rising and what was seemed to be going for something we couldn't see just sub-surface.

A good day all round with plenty of variety.

7 graying around 9"-17"
4 trout around 5"-11"
All returned.

Coloured water after the morning thundery shower. A couple of may flies seen but very little fish activity compared to the day before, so I gave up after only 40minutes.

No salmon seen - water very low. Lovely dry fly fishing at The Gravel Catch - caught a couple of nice trout before the sun came out. Plenty of flies hatching during the day, including mayflies.
