Low water and bright sunshine made for a tough day. Tight Line nymphs worked their magic and I winkled out a few fish. The Biggest Trout was 13" but four of the Oos Grayling were large up to 19"

An enjoyable day with river conditions very good and the odd fish rising. Unfortunately a nil return, despite frequent change of fly on a dry line.

Area:Irfon & Ithon

Beat:Colonel's Water

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:2

The Irfon was showing its bones today, bright sun all day on crystal clear water made it tough going, no significant hatch to speak of and only rising fish were Grayling. Just nice to be out there though, as AB said, "nice fishing, bad catching". Nil return.

River conditions looked ideal, Wood stream looked a cert! many hatches through the day, a few rises but nothing caught. very difficult to fish the Barn and The Oak, couldn't find a suitable entry. Fantastic weather though.

River very low and slow. 6 wbt caught and returned, best around 8". Fished a variety of dry flies - Adams, Tups, CDC. All seemed to catch on a slow day.

Familiar story, the catchment desperately needs water! I know this beat really well and have a pretty good idea where the fish lie. Not today as the lack of water changed the script. Sadly there are fallen trees obstructing 3 of the deeper pools. Not usually a problem as there are so many other good casts. Today it nullified some of the only likely spots for bigger fish. Managed 7 wbt of a variety of dries, all returned, but all small to 7".

However, safe to say, Hergest on a bad day is still a pretty good day!

A beautiful afternoon for a scramble up the stream but sadly I did not contact any fish - just spooked a few.

2 fish landed in the first 3 casts. River running low and slightly coloured which was weird as reports of friends fishing further down at Hergest and Aberedw were of gin clear water. Cloudiness may have helped. I fished consistently on a grey spider pattern (not sure what it is to be honest but picture attached). Most fish around 6-8" but a couple at 10.
