First time on this beat, fished second swim in the woods, the walk was challenging. Chub were in profusion, not really giving the barbel a chance, but a fantastic days fishing. Chub between 2lb 8oz and 4lb 12oz, barbel 5lb to 7lb 13oz

Courtfield (woods) was fishing quite tough today, water was low and not much flow - I tried to locate some of the deeper water and used the classic feeder - pellet technique. The chub came early morning at around 5am then not a bite until a lovely 7.10lb barbel at 15:30. Cracking day in lovely location!

River starting to show its bones on this warm and windy day. Forecast was 6mph sw but felt three times that. All grayling were in the 6" - 8" bracket and took a size 14 klinkhammer as well as a size 18 ptn. Did manage to hook a brownie but it ended up as a long release.
The bank vegetation is head high in places so you need to carefully consider your position before casting.
Still, it was a good day out considering I booked the beat at 10:30 on the day.
Many thanks to the Wye and Usk.

How many chub can a barbel angler take? They were greedy to say the least. Feeder tactics today and a tricky cast too with overhanging trees to get through. Started mid day until dusk. 10mm pellets. Wildlife included long tailed tits, green woodpecker and kingfisher but to top trump everything we saw a peregrine falcon hovering way up and then dive bombing twice. A memorable moment.
Another great day on the Wye.

Very pleasant late evening fishing. Not much activity fishing wood stream. Water .43m and as clear as it gets. Fished team of size 14 spiders with no takes. John had similar experience.
Reverted to dry deer hair sedge 14 at tail of Chine pool and landeca nice three quarter pounder at 9.
Moved to below rock at 9.15 and fished sedge until 10.15. Hooked a large fish in excess of 2lb below rock at 10 tweeking thesedge across current on downstream and across cast. Fish tore off downstream and broke the 3lb line. Disappointing.
John hooked and lost one decent fish on single partridge and orange spider at top pool.
Went quiet at 10.15.

River low and clear, weather bright and warm. Fished from 16.00 to 22.00.Hooked and lost a moderate-sized barbel first cast, which was both disappointing and encouraging. I then caught a succession of small barbel between about half a pound and a pound. I changed tactics and bait to try to find the larger fish, but it was not until late evening I had a couple around the 5 to 6 pound mark.
