An early start in anticipation of Storm Ophelia and we were rewarded with four grayling plus others lost, one quite large. A strong downstream wind dictated a down and across approach with copper beaded nymphs until the wind got the better of us and we departed at 1pm.

Strange and slightly frustrating morning, at one point almost like an eclipse in eerie orange light as the storm came on and winds strengthened. Eventually packed up with nothing to report, two casts out of three requiring leaf removal, even using a single hook fly. That's me for migratory fish this year.

Caught my first ever salmon today. Coloured fish of 33" to a tube fly on a sink tip from chapel catch. Was half tempted to just stay at home, what with all the weather warnings etc but glad I didn't. Very windy and blustery in the afternoon but river had decent clarity and I was just about able to get a decent line out. Bring on next season!
