Fantastic day, barbel clearly wanted to feed. Fished 3 swims in all during the day, nearly all of the fish came after the first swim change then steadily throughout the rest of the day.
Ledgered pellets or 12mm boilees for hook bait with pellets in a PVA bag was the successful method. Best barbel was 8lb 2oz.
River in good condition, steady flow with not too much debris coming through.

Water came up overnight and was heavily coloured until mid afternoon. Dropped slowly but only a foot of visibility until late in the day. Not a touch until 5pm and then 3-4 trout in quick succession. No salmon but a couple seen in Rock and one seen in Gravel Catch. Tomorrow will be a day to remember for someone.

River approx 0.5m at Ross and clear. Generally cloudy with sunny breaks. Fished all beats during the course of the day, some twice, ably assisted by Mick the ghillie. Occasional fish showing on all beats all day. None landed but one good fish hooked at The Island which then gave an athletic leap and threw the fly (In Flames tube fished on fast sinking tip). Although I lost the fish, without Mick's help I would never have hooked it in the first place. It was in a small lie, exactly where Mick suggested I should aim for, that I would not have even noticed by myself. His help was invaluable, especially for a newcomer to the beat, as I was. Many thanks Mick; hope to see you next season !

Caught 1 WBT and 1 Grayling on a variation of the 'Zulu'.
Four Grayling tempted and landed on a dry red klinkhammer. Just as many lost!
A good flow on the river and it was slightly coloured following all the recent rain.
Be aware of a 'new' barbed wire fence that has been erected right across the river just upstream of the bridge. It makes access to this specific stretch very awkward.
This really is a beautiful part of rural Herefordshire. A great day out fishing.
1 Trout, 5 Grayling
