Another good day with the river in great condition. A steady LDO hatch at lunchtime though not very heavy. No March Browns this week. I had a few on spiders in the morning and then a few more on the dries at lunchtime. Best fish was 1.75lb. By about 3pm, it was all over.

A disappointing day. River was well up and pushing through to the extent that we packed up before 11.00
We did chat to the owner of the beat who explained that high levels in the reservoirs upstream meant that water was being released into the Wye, raising the levels. Unfortunately this meant that the beat was just about unfishable
No fish caught.

Fantastic day on a lovely beat, 12 degrees river running off with a bit of colour still there.
Between 3 people we had 7 Barbel and 5 Chub plus 1 Grayling. All fish came to the maggot feeder.

Glorious spring day with the river at just the right height. Fished only the upper beat. Landed one 12 inch trout, hooked and lost 3 others of about the same size. Good hatch of LDOs at around 1pm with a few fish rising from the depths to take them sporadically. Jingler seemed to be the fly that appealed. A wonderful close encounter with a young otter who was very curious to find out what I was. I don't understand why there is any need to stock this beat as there appear to be good numbers of wild trout - don't most people fishing WUF beats prefer catch and release of wild fish ? Fortunately it hadn't been stocked yet this season.

Early Spring river up, but kindly gave up 3 trout to olive nymph, including one 14in golden brown Usk beauty. A number of other heart warming contacts/misses. Good start to season.

Allthough a short section found a few fish. Once again had to fish under the near bank due to very high and dirty water.

0 Fish caught by both anglers, tried worms on pop up's, float, spinning etc. not even a bite.
There were 2 persons who couldn't speak English fishing near us with multiple (7+) rods !! Haven't seen their catch returns on the site?

WUF Note : Tickets are available on site via a machine so the 7 rods were not necessarily booked through WUF.

River conditions on the 10th were high, about a metre over normal level and dropping. It was coloured, but we had seen the Wye in this condition in the past and had a good day. Weather was good and we had some early successes, but despite trying almost all of the available pegs, about 6 safe ones and other tricky ones, we landed 9 good fish. Biggest barbel about 6lb, biggest chub 4lb. Great beat, we will certainly be back.

We were surprised to find that booking 3 rods, which is only possible over the phone, we were charged an additional £4:50. Could it not be possible to book three rods over the web?

WUF Note : The additional booking fee was £2.00. (£2.50 online, £4.50 over the phone). 2 rods take the beat at How Caple. We dont put a third party angler on top of two already booked in hence the need to retain some rods for phone booking only. WUF will be introducing a 'block booking' facility at some point in the future.
