Very slow day today despite perfect conditions. Starting at 08:00 I had to wait until 18:00 for my first and only bite resulting in a Barbel of 5lb 10oz using pellets.

Visited this beat today but the river level was too low to be really fishable so only stayed less than 1 hour. I tried two pools without any sign of fish.

river very low but just about fishable. There were a few rises but none of them consistent. I fished a small dry fly.

River high though clear, making wading difficult in places. Saw only one fish rise. Caught one grayling, about 1lb and one trout, 6oz, on a tungsten nymph fishing New Zealand style. Not much reward for a lot of effort!

First visit to this incredible piece of water, massively impressed with the way it's kept, all the walkways, pool signs and access. The water was high and wishing well clear today, no fish contacted with or seen, but what a truly stunning beat, I can imagine on it's day this beat could provide some amazing sport with it's great variety of water. I have a feeling the last trip of the season will be in the upper pools here.
Other perks of this beat are: it has full 4G phone signal throughout and also there is a Greggs bakery 100m down the road - both rare things while fishing in a remote part of Wales!

After losing a fish here yesterday and seeing several others running through I knew it was holding a good few. Returned today for a focused run through for a few hours. River at a beautiful height and flow 1'9" on the Llanstephan gauge. First fish took in main flow of the Stepping Stones: a 33" Hen around 15lb's. Second fish took in the neck of the Upper Caban: 37" Cock fish - 22lb on the sturdy scale. Both gave a great battle on 7wt switch rod with 3ips 10ft tip and a size 10 red Ally's Shrimp. Challenging wading and access but amazing water and scenery, topped off by a PB. V happy drive home today!
