Low river and quite overgrown in places. Incredible smell of wild garlic and a lovely viewing of a Barn Owl returning to feed chicks in their nest. Spotted one trout darting in the water but very skittish. Lovely setting.

Another great days fishing, all fish taken on dry fly. Very windy and cold, but sunny in the afternoon.

A tough day which was bright and with a cold downstream wind. There were some occasional rises to the sparse grannom hatches but otherwise, little surface activity. I fished the bottom section up to Llangoed rapids with both dries and nymph, which has some very attractive water for a trout fishermen. It is also probably the easiest wading I've experienced on the upper Wye over the flat bedrock. Looking forward to returning in more favourable conditions.

1 pull but no fish. Water dropping all day. A few trout rising below bridge. The banks do need some maintenance to improve access.

Fantastic looking place. Wading could be a bit precarious at times. Saw a good number of March Browns and LDOs hatching but very few fish seen and none caught. Pleasant day cut short by some very unwelcome kayakers who knew very well that they were not supposed to be there.

Lovely beat with some excellent features. Lots of Olives and March Browns hatching off, we had a few offers to cdc emerger patterns and one excellent WBT of about 3/4 of a pound was taken on hares ear. Kayakers came through at around 3pm which ended our day rather earlier than expected.

River very low and gin clear. My walking, wading and clambering efforts were eventually rewarded with a WBT. The fish was taking advantage of a very brief hatch of pale watery duns and happily mistook my Adams dry fly for a real one.
Penpont isn't what it used to be as a beat in the day of the "Penpont Porkers" - which I hope referred to the fish and not the regular anglers! However, it's still a varied beat and as long as you don't pick school holidays you may be untroubled by the fast-growing holiday campsite at the farm that owns the beat.
