Decided not to fish as the conditions were the same as the previous unproductive evening. Cut our losses and moved on to try the Usk.

Hottest day of the year. High sun. Low water. Definitely not trout fishing conditions. Not a fish rose all day. However, we managed to tease out a couple of nice fish. 10" and 12"+, using tungsten-weighted nymphs in the deeper runs. Very happy with these fish given the conditions.

Weather conditions tough but fish fed right throughout, even in the middle of the day! Very strange in the very hot bright weather, had to pack up around 7 pm, just too much hot weather! But a great day in all, thanks WUF for a great day even though it was hot.
So sorry to gripe but some idiots were jumping out of their canoes and swimming down the river. Are they stupid or what? Don't they realise how dangerous rivers are? I know living next to the lower Severn and Warwickshire Avon! But I told a few and just abuse back! Someone tell these idiots please! They are just stupid, no life jackets either!

Heat wave conditions, river level 10", gin clear. Noon, only occasional fish rising. Dry Ginger Quill, size 14, 12 ' cast tapered to 2.5 lbs. Several rises, surprisingly, and one fish landed approx 1 1/2 lbs. Very fit fish in excellent condition. Returned and it swam away with gusto.

Hot day, river levels reasonable but we felt that an additional 6" or so would have made the conditions pretty much perfect. Water clear.
We had come the night before to do a reccie and witnessed a good Brook Dun hatch and the river come alive between 8-9.30pm. Plenty of fish in the upper 'car park' pool.
Parking at the bottom of the field access, we started at around 9am. The two of us went down to the lowest pool first. The water further down from the pool to the bridge was accessible in one or two spots. The glides were deep, the flow was slow and the floor, a flagstone bedrock bottom covered in brown algae, looked potentially hazardous so we gave that a miss. Nymph fished the pockets and runs up the lower pool and got the best fish of the day - 2 x 2+lb browns. Both in perfect condition and fighting fit, plus other smaller browns.
Middle riffle produced a small trout around 6" and a small Salmon parr. The upper pool didn't produce anything sadly to either dry or czech nymph. You can't fish the riffle above as that is in the Dinas stretch as maked on the map.
The evening saw the previous evening's hatch begin dropping but the expected mad feed on spents didn't materialise as we hoped. Caught one more small trout and got smashed on a very decent fish on dry (Adams and March Brown). Saw some 1/2lb fish feeding on the nearside bank under the trees around mid afternoon, some with the reported white fungus on their snouts. They all seemed healthy and were very happy supping midges and spent Brook Duns off the surface.
Lovely piece of water, will come again. Thank you W&U for making this water available.
