not much happening at surface so opted to nymph. wind was very strong and played havoc with tip of fly line. so with utter disgust stuck on a bite indicator. this helped no end keeping the flies moving through the feeding lanes. water up a little and slightly coloured all trout between 7-16 inches and the grayling between 6-14 inches. all taking size 16 3mm tungsten bead baetis nymph. nice few hours on the lugg

River is still slightly coloured. The extra water improved the fishing with most trout taking the nymph. Nice fish up to 13" caught. Only fished the first few pools from the bridge upwards over lunch time.

The real purpose of the day was to practice casting. Had a very enjoyable morning, much improving techniques. Had a good afternoon with a switch rod, catching lovely couple of brownies to finish the day. Rained from lunchtime onwards, water was high and not helped by very persistent rain for much of the afternoon. thoroughly enjoyable day,

River high and coloured for my annual visit! Muggy with hazy sunshine and drizzle blowing in the wind. Nearly didn't fish. Didn't fancy crossing the river so couldn't fish top of beat. Tried nymphing down walkway with no result. Walked down to bottom of beat and delighted to find fish rising. (To emerging sulphur Mays?) Picked off several with emerger Mayfly and spent pleasant few hours casting to rising spotties, landing 9 and losing or missing as many again. All takeable with best over the pound mark. Kept 2 for breakfast.

Great fun for a couple of hours - water level up and a tinge of colour. 13xwbt from 3-7" flicking a #20 goldbead nymph into the obvious places. As suspected a great beat after some wet weather!

Tough day. River was really too high and coloured. Should be better tomorrow.

Fished from 6pm until 8:30pm, dropping in to likely runs where the undergrowth allowed, which was helped as the grass has been cut along the margins for part of the beat. Plenty of fly life, but few fish rising. That said, I did catch 4 of the trout to the dry, with shadow mayfly or elk hair caddis dry as part of duo. All others caught on the gold head pheasant tail nymph. Slight tinge of colour and still quite low.

River high and coloured but levelling off from spate when I arrived. Started getting takes on a Toby as soon as the river began dropping around 3.30 but first two came to nothing. The third was a beautiful fresh run fish of around 13-14lb which gave me a merry dance for almost thirty minutes in deep and fast water before coming to the net at the third attempt.
