Turned up at the majestic Talybont Reservoir at eleven in the morning , initially a nice ripple coming from the dam down the lake , where I fished the top end . Bright sun burned through the cloud cover , making the day tricky fishing , however , the dinner bell must have been rung at around half six , as rises appeared everywhere, and it seemed the trout were being very selective . I eventually caught at around Seven , on a static black buzzer , a beautifully marked Talybont brownie of about a pound or so . It wasn't long before I was into another , again the same stamp , and not one of the two pounders that were crashing about mid water , taken this time on the green buzzer , again static . A great few hours , shall look forward to some sedge action here in June , and will hang on till the glooming on my next sortie here , as I'm told the sport can be exceptional . . . . Bring it on !!!!!!!!!!

Spent the morning upstream of Llanwrthwl Bridge and caught two Grayling best about 12 inches to a black klink, despite some hatches there were no fish rising and saw no trout in the clear water. Downstream of the bridge in the afternoon and in very bright sunshine and with a small but continuous hatch I saw no fish rising nor caught any.
As an aside a few days before I fished the RRA waters around Rhayader and again saw no evidence of any trout indeed I walked the banks downstream of Dernol with my polaroids on to see if I could spot any fish but the river appeared barren. Worrying?

A very hot day with the river high. Despite having Mick on hand, fishing was challenging. Tried spinning with a Devon Minnow and even used the fly rod but to no avail! Never saw a fish all day!

Another brutal day toiling under a bright sun: 8 hours of fruitless nymphing and not a fin stirred. In fact I did not see a suggestion of a fish over the two days. I did however see Mink on both of the beats I fished (Quakers Yard and Merthyr Vale). I would suggest that these devastatingly destructive creatures are ruining the fishing on the Taff; and I will certainly be looking for my fishing elsewhere.

A beautiful warm day. Some sparse hatches of LDOs, a few grannom and a few March Browns. You had to look carefully for them but there were some rises with all the activity confined to the lower half of the beat. We had a few on dries and some on spiders. Our catch included 2 two-pounders. Some of the rising fish were very difficult to tempt. They were definitely taking LDO duns but often refused all artificials. Great day though and it seems that the trout fishing on the Usk has gotten off to a flyer this season.

With continuing summer conditions, quick water produced 4 trout to 18 inches on heavy nymph. A late morning mixed hatch did not bring anything to the surface.

A lovely day on this beautiful beat but, alas, no trout to the net! Lost a few to a deep nymph, including one very aggressive take which, embarrassingly, broke me off.

Plenty of fly life about but did not see a rise all day. Maybe this was down to the very bright weather?

Thanks to the WUF.

Enjoyed my day at Goodrich, river a lot higher than expected -only had fly rods with me but ghillie said it was more suited to spinning, due to river conditions. No fish caught but seen a couple jumping. Will definately try other beats.
