Pollution evident in this stretch, water smell, algae buildup really shows with low water, fish will struggle here despite stocking.

A strange day. Lots of fish rising in the morning and I ought to have caught a few more. Nothing much happening in the afternoon. Left early to watch the Europa League final so I didn't fish the evening.

Very enjoyable day with intermittent hatch and low water.
All the fish came from the downstream end of the beat mainly taken on dries, one advantage of low water levels was that it was easy to cross over and fish the bottom of the beat down to the remains if the footbridge.

This was an evening session starting 7pm finishing about 9.30pm concentrating on the Rock Pool at the top of the beat. I'd seen reports of a wide variety of flies hatching on the upper Wye in the past few days and that was the case again with various olives plus midges, sedge and mayflies making for clouds of fly life above the river - great to see.
I stuck to the dry fly as there were plenty of trout rising but they were selective and the usually reliable cdc shuttlecock emerger was refused by everything. A switch to a Ducks Dunn produced a few with some more coming later to a spinner pattern.
The river is unbelievably low and with the good clarity, the fish are very spooky. Stealth and presentation is everything in the calmer water, even for the smaller fish. No monsters this evening, biggest was around 11". A few barbel spotted too.

Incredible hatch this afternoon / evening of olive uprights, iron blues, mayflies, midge and a few BWOs. Likely caused by the change in weather and drop in pressure on the day. Fish rising in almost every pool. Landed a good number, but sadly nothing over 2lb.

Rainy morning and sunny afternoon. Few fish active during the day but lots of rising fish in the last hour before dusk when there was a large hatch of mayfly. 3 fish caught were all around 1 lb in weight. Caught on sulphur dun mayfly.

Very tough day. Both the Wye and Usk are as low as we've known them and we've been coming 20 odd years. And this far up, the Wye is even lower. Still managed 15 fish, 6 on the nymph, the rest on an olive. Two fish in the 1 1/2 lb region.

With the river being so low and on a very bright sunny morning I didn't have any great expectations, but had been meaning to try a beat on the Irfon for some time, but so it proved - a blank, with not a fish in sight despite plenty of fly life evident. Nice stretch of river in a lovely part of the valley, but awful conditions for fish.
Stayed at Irfon Valley Pods, the campsite near Llangammarch Wells, highly recommended.
