First visit to this beat. Lovely water with easy access in such a beautiful part of Herefordshire. Sadly a quiet day with minimal numbers of fish rising. A few mayfly about in late afternoon.
It certainly needs a repeat visit!

A beautiful stretch of river, I caught 8 trout to 12", 1 on a dry sedge the others on a small bead head hares ear nymph, missed a few takes to the dry sedge. The wading can be a bit tricky so was pleased I had my wading stick.

Unfortunately the river rose and coloured while I was there. Plenty of fly life including Large brook duns and Mayfly. 2 caught on soft hackle dry in the first run then went to nymphs for a while before the takes dwindled to nothing. I stopped at the bridge after catching nothing for an hour. The air above the lane was thick with BWO spinners as I left around 6pm.

Lovely beat, very accessible water, plenty of good pools and some quicker riffles. Fish seemed to be lying in the quicker water. Caught trout to 12'' and grayling to 14''. Parachute Adams and small gold head PTN successful patterns.

Despite promise of some rain, the water remained very low, falling a little during the day, making the slow pull of the Llangoed Pool even slower. However, there were some trout and smolts in evidence there, and I caught a smolt and a salmon parr, hooking 4 others, and with my usual talentlessness, missed them all! DH unfortunately drew a blank for the day. He hasn't had enough opportunity to fish and familiarity with beats helps a great deal.
Roll on this weeks rain....

I can't comment a lot on the things like river conditions as we were fishing in the river for first time and also we are just beginning anglers. I've caught 1 brown trout on the may fly nymph just simply let freely it to float by the river current, I had 2 takes on the dry fly but didn't manage to set the hook.
In general it is a nice beat, there is fish movement, its close to Brecon town so it's nice mix with nature and view in the town.
My strong advice is before you decide which beat to book, is to read the Wye & Usk Foundation Fishing Reports.

My first visit to the Lugg and wow - what a lovely little stream - not easy to fish though with many fallen trees and fences across the river. But these small streams are starting to wake up now and although there were few fish rising, there was a lot of insect life and the first few mayflies were starting to hatch. I caught 11 wbt all to a small size 16 DHE. Mostly 8 -9" and one a good 12".
