An enjoyable two days albeit barren ones as far as the fish was concerned. Mick made every effort to put my son, Robert and myself over fish but it wasn't to be. Here's to next season.

Beautiful setting for spending a day. We had sunshine in the morning with grey skies and rain coming later in the day. A couple of fish were caught early on with hot head nymphs but for a long stretch afterwards there was no sign of life. Despite no natural rises, fish could be tempted to go for grey duster variants which accounted for the latter 2 fish.

First time on this stretch and the fishing looked as though it would be difficult with the sun shining, river low and clear. Fished in the downstream field only. BEWARE OF THE FIRST MARKED PEG IN THIS FIELD AS IT IS THE HOME OF A SWARM OF WASPS. Twenty or so stings to the head didn't make for a comfortable days fishing, but persevered and two barbel were caught with the best of 9lb 10oz.

This was my second visit to Courtfield. Felt really confident as I know this is a prolific beat but the fishing was not going to plan. Only managed a chub but it was a belter at 5lb. Tried a variation of baits - maggots, pellets and meat etc. Not much happening with the other anglers too. There were 5 of us altogether and there was only a handful of fish. The river was very low and clear with not much flow. Still, I enjoyed the visit as always and the weather was fantastic! See you in the spring.

Not easy fishing...in the morning rising fish were preoccupied with tiny flies and extremely cautious rejecting most of what I presented, finally around midday after repeated casts to the same spot I raised a decent Grayling to a size 18 Grey Duster, around 14".....two more followed around the 12" mark to Griffiths Gnat and Killer Bug. All fighting fit! The trout was around 10" on a Greenwells. River needs some rain.
