Its been a while since we have done some jungle bashing in the valley now so thought its about high time !
Seems theres a bit more jungle these days but as always a bit of wandering around finds ways through and its always worth it. Theres some super runs and pools here that you can spend hours on and certainly make up for the canalised sections. The wading is generally good and easy.
The river was low and carrying a touch of colour as is the norm these days it seems but fish where moving in the tails of the pools. Couldn't see what to, but no fly showing so presumably terrestrials. Black klinkhammers and elk hairs got their interest, no problem. The trout went from 6" to 12" and the bigger ones where in superb condition/colours etc . Just fabulous!
There where some big fish moving on top here and there but out of range today. Next time maybe...
There where the makings of a possible good evening rise (a reasonable amount of mayfly still about too) but never happened. No matter, there where still two very happy fishers, its a lovely peaceful place to be.

Fished the top half from Malhollam bridge upstream from 6 to 8 pm. Water level rather low and the trees quite overgrown made for a tough couple of hours. I immediately rose and missed a very good fish under the bridge on a dry Sedge but managed to land a couple of around 6 inches further up stream.

First visit to this varied and interesting beat, which was looking absolutely gorgeous in very rare summer sunshine. Not good for the fishing but certainly food for the soul. A few trout did eventually come out to play as the evening wore on and although it was never warm enough for a proper evening rise, we did manage five fish to 15", the best coming to a head and tail riser caught on Peter Hayes' Spinnermalist pattern. We will certainly return next April!

Fished the Rectory on both 14th and 15th. Excellent beat made all the better by hooking and landing a 13lb (32") cock salmon on a Yellow Allie at Glangwye. Fished Rectory again on 15th without contacting a fish. This was the first time to fish this beat and hopefully it won't be the last.I was ably assisted by Jonathan Morris.
Stayed at the "WYEKNOTCAFE" which I would recommend to anyone fishing this beat.

First of 3 days on different beats, we had wanted to float fish the end swim but the river was still up, settled in the middle on the feeder until Glyn arrived and advised us to move further down, we ended with 3&2 Barbel to just under 7lb, river looked good and felt as if we should have done better.

River had a nice bit of colour, hard sun on the water for most of the day but clouded over late afternoon, so no excuse for failure to land anything. Masses of fly life but no sign of any sizeable fish rising. Hooked two trout, lost both. Ho hum!
