River below summer levels which perhaps opened up more water to access?
A pedantic approach to "dry fly only'' to rising fish left one rod blank, the majority fell for an olive shell back nymph fished NZ style through the faster water. Slab rock very slippery, water crystal clear. The young boy in the group sends his thanks for the fly vest "on offer to a good home'' in the fishing hut. Great day on a cracking beat.

I fished a wild stream for a first time as a participant on the Wild Stream Day event. What a fantastic day! Coming from still-water fly fishing background, I was daunted before the start but soon getting a hang of it; thanks to our superb guide Tony, who is very knowledgeable. I learned so much from him in a couple of hours; how to read the water and various technique. I was over the moon to catch 4 beautiful wild-browns on size 14 Klinkhammer. I cannot thank Usk & Wye foundation enough for this wild stream course; excellent value for money.

No salmon caught or seen. Although this is a very short beat, there is plenty to keep you entertained for a couple of hours. 2 10" wbt and one bigger one that threw the hook to a PTN. Huge hatch of various different flies at midday including the first mays I've seen this year - fish rising everywhere but with so much to feed on not interested in anything I put their way, especially with a gusty downstream wind. Shame this one isn't available more often - would be perfect for a weekday evening session

Thankfully the rains yesterday put a modest degree of fresh water in to the system. The sun came out during the afternoon and promoted some fly activity. I caught two small WBT on a size 16 Klinkhammer Special. My first visit to fish the River Wye and hopefully not the last. Beautiful surroundings, but it does help when the sun shines!

A day with our guide Seth, on his water on the absolutely upper Arrow. River somewhat low, but after the past 3 months lack of rain that cannot be a surprise. Slight coloration to the water after yesterdays rain. Troublesome wind and limited fly life apart from gnats. But what a wonderful day. Its such a fishable beat, with many exciting pools. Excellent access for someone who is usually used to the lower Rea. We caught 7 trout between us in all, on a variety of flies. Gery Wulf, grey duster, and parachute Adams the best of the bunch. Seth was most helpful throughout, and the introductory meeting at the Radnorshire Arms a great start to the day.
Its never too late to learn, and I'm looking forward to returning next year.

lovely beat ! though in places a little hairy to wade. i booked this hoping that overnight rain would lift the river but sadly it never did. French nymphed heads of pools and had the 5 trout and both grayling in the first two hours then the river just died and i mean died. not sure of the head of fish in this section of river as the pacey water only gave up the seven fish . the wind was horrendous which may of put them off the feed. plenty of fly on the water olives, midge , crane fly but very limited rises and what did was small. size wise bar one trout all above twelve inches with the largest trout 16 inches all taking size 18 2mm tungsten aqua baetis on the point of a team of two weighted nymphs

4 plump brown trout, 8 to 12 inches. All to a #16 light olive dry. Lovely days fishing on a lovely stream. Quite challenging with the developing tree cover but all the better for that!
