First time on the Usk, river appeared VERY low for the time of year. Fished from 5pm to 9pm, saw some massive trout in the pools and flats which were very slow moving and crystal clear, fish were extremely wary. Spooked loads of fish wading even in ultra stealth mode. Loads of flies hatching mayfly, olives and others I couldn't identify. Missed a couple of takes on a para Adams dry fly early on but fish seemed to be taking nymphs just below the surface. Got my reward for some hard work late on with a 12 inch wild brown trout then lost one about the same size fishing an unweighted nymph just sub surface. Big fish were ultra wary and spooked very easily, probably due to low later conditions. Observed several very big wild brown trout sitting in really shallow water. Will return, lovely beat.

A lovely stretch of water. Fished beats 3 and 4. Hooked one salmon but lost it around 10ft from getting it to hand. Lost count of the number of salmon that I did see jumping. Will definitely be returning.
When I arrived a working party was just about to start work on the river. Stayed well away from me and gave plenty of advice on the best fish holding spots.

4 fish taken between us on a warm overcast day, all were returned and several other takes missed. Plenty of insect life hatching off through the day but not many fish showing. Trying to present a fly to the few that were showing was a challenge despite relatively low levels. We caught on dries and nymphs, the latter proving more successful overall.
