River quite coloured; high but steady in the morning, rose in the afternoon. Fished the The Windmill and The Maddox on the right bank, close in on sinking link and big heavy black Snaelda. Had one rattle but it didn't stick.

River was quite high and coloured barely a fish seen and none caught. Things improved when we made it to the Bell in the evening. I'm sure we just picked the wrong day and will try again soon.

Strange evening session - I see O.B beat me to it so makes a little more sense now! Picked off a couple of 6/7" wbt on GRHE fished duo, no rises to the klink. Fish not rising as such in the pools, but jumping clean out of the water - no obvious hatch so have no idea what they were up to?! Must have seen half a dozen doing it. As all was quiet despite fish clearly being there, I tied on a black streamer tied on a #14 jig hook, swung it through a riffle and first cast had an energetic 9" wbt...then all quiet again

Another excellent day with Mick Sutton who knows every inch of the water. Started with a Flying C but fished mostly with a weighted fly on a fast sinking tip, all to no avail. The river rose about 4" during the day and was high to start with (arguably a wash-off) but, going fishing is not only about catching fish. Will be back in May.

River a bit higher than expected and a large spring tide put it up a further foot for an hour. Will try this beat again when much lower as some water looks good for fly. Flying C and Devons this time though.
