I had few hours to kill while on an errand in Gloucestershire so I decided to give this beat a go, I only managed to get about half way though before having to leave. FIshed the clink and dink, six of the fish coming to the GHRE and one on the dry, although I lost one and missed one on the dry too.
No sign of any hatches but a few fish rising none the less. Overall I really liked this beat, every corner had somewhere to cast to. Although for the first time I felt that my 8.5ft rod was too big. I can't help but think I might have caught more if I had managed to keep my flies out of the trees, but that's what I'd expect on a wild stream.

Wonderful day on a fantastic beat, good parking, easy access and good wading on a variety of water.

Started sunny with little SE breeze. Had confidence to change to spiders after OB report and had several fish at bottom of right bank at top of pool. Few flies or rises. Moved up to top of beat and had continued success with trout and lost a very good one. Fish stunningly beautiful in good condition and very very feisty. Day started turning at 1pm, clouds rolling in over hills and rising colder wind as predicted. Fearing end of fishing moved back down to end of best. Light rain began. On entering pool it was apparent something was happening- some fish splashing in shallower water, very eager to take spiders. Suddenly a switch was thrown, seemingly endless flotillas of smoky-grey winged olive uprights floated down and the entire pool was alive with rising fish. Switched as quickly as I could with shaking hands to a small Adams and caught/ released several. Suddenly after about 10 mins a switch was again thrown and everything stopped- a few flies drifted past and a few fish rose but otherwise the pool was totally dead. I was stunned and amazed- my first experience of a large hatch and rise ever. Wish I'd had a camera to film it as I was busy fishing in the middle of it all- but the memories will last a lifetime.
Thank you for the opportunity you afforded me- hopefully some more to come.

There was a rise just after mid-day of LDO's, MB's and I what I think were stonefly. I caught one 16" trout on an adams and one 11" on a small PTN. The rain come intermittently from 2/3, after that the rises stopped and I couldn't tempt anything else.

0.21m on the gauge and running at a steady pace. Coldish Easterly wind not best for this beat. Good hatch of LDO at about 3.30pm, however, not a riser to be seen. Only caught in deeper water, the trout on a PTN and the rather small grayling on an olive Klink, that came up out of pity ! Good to meet up with S.C. yesterday who is a regular here, while I was out walking, and have a natter about fishing in general.

14 x trout 10-15 inches, Waterhen Bloa, Dark Moorgame, Woodcock and Hare's Lug, Grannom spider, Olive Jingler. The river was in fine condition as the level came down, but this trip was actually very hard work. A cold night was followed by a day of low cloud cover and a very chilly east wind. And I suppose nobody told the trout that the clocks had changed. So I waited and waited, fishing spiders for the odd fish until, quite late in the day, a hatch of large dark olives began and I was able to make up the rest of the bag with a dry fly on the surface. I have it on (several) good authorities that a couple of days ago, when it was warmer, a large hatch of grannom appeared in this part of the river.

A couple of hours at the bottom of the beat. Briefly hooked two, and then lost them.
