I took a good friend along with me this time, and I stupidly told him there were plenty of fish in this river (there are).
The weather was 12-15 degrees, overcast and no wind.
The river however looked lower than it did in May and very clear. We managed a couple of grayling, one taken on the fly fly, and a couple of oos brownies.
Saw quite a few fish rising but could only get the one to come to the fly. Nice day out though, in very mild conditions.

Not much happening at Abernant today only a few rises in the time I was there and very little activity nymphing. All trout and grayling took weighted nymphs fished duo. Grayling to 14 inches and trout to 13 inches. there was no hatch at all and very limited fly on the water. The flow was not my cup of tea today and levels need to rise to get it moving. A lovely beat none the less and will give it another go with another 6 inches on the gauge

Second day of 2 on the Creel and what a difference in weather conditions from the day before, it was dull and damp all day long, typical autumn weather.
I started in the church field and had a barbel after 30 minutes of starting, no more bites were forthcoming so I moved to the bottom of the beat where I had taken one fish the day before. This yielded not a bite so I moved back upstream to a peg I had not fished before but had put in a little bit of bait walking past. I hooked a barbel second cast but it managed to shred the line on a snag and escaped. No other bites came my way so I moved again to another swim but had no bites here either.
A move back to my original swim was made mid-afternoon as I had taken the trouble to keep a bit of bait going in through the day. A further 7 barbel were taken to a best of 7lb 2oz and another lost when the hook pulled out. All fish taken on straight lead with either pellet or boilie hook bait, a glugged bait seem to do the job best of all.
There is now a gas gun bird scarer operating in the field opposite the bottom of the beat... it is very loud if you fish near it and I can’t help feeling most of the fish might have departed that area as well!
A lovely days fishing in a very nice place.

8 x grayling 10-12 inches, 4 x out of season trout, heavy nymphs. The poor old Lugg really does need some more water and it's currently very low and clear. Nothing of size taken today and it was really quite hard work, but were still some holes deep enough to plumb for a few hours. I like the new fencing scheme, also the willow pleaching, and it will be interesting to see how the bank grows up. Incidentally, I don't know why such a fuss is made about the wooded area upstream. This is the area where most (not all) of the large fish taken at Eyton over time have been found and well worth fishing through. You either roll under the fence just above the weir or go through the gate a little higher and simply work your way up the channel. There are just a couple of deep places where you need to get out on the bank for a few yards. All the plentiful woody debris is good fish territory. At the top of the fishing, go into the field on the right bank and follow the game-keeper's track (also a foot path) back down and you eventually wind up back at the footbridge. On this day the curious young steers in the main field didn't bother me, but they did manage to break through a fence into a field of fresh-planted winter wheat - chaos!

What an incredible day weather wise for near November. It started off misty and warm before turning sunny and hot, 19 degrees celcius in the shade! It clouded over later and got back to a more normal temperature.
To the fishing. I concentrated my efforts on the bottom field and took a barbel on the second cast but had no more bites until the afternoon when I had a second fish after trying a couple of other swims. Both fish were around the 5lb mark and caught on straight lead and boilie and pellet. A lovely place to spend some time in autumn.

River low and clear but weather very mild and cloudy so did not know what to expect. Turned out to be a very good afternoon with barbel to 9lb-3oz on pellet and feeder. However, they switched off early and I caught a solitary chub in the last hour and a half. Just the same a great session on a lovely stretch of the Wye.
