River running very fast and deep. Not good conditions after a lot of unexpected heavy rain. Not ideal access to this beat as parking in the village can be tricky.

Nine+ to hand in the short time I was there. All small, up to 9 inches. First time on this beat and it is a struggle to fish due to the amount of fallen trees and vegetation. To look at nice... to fish very frustrating.

First day fishing wild streams and had invaluable help from guide Oliver Burch - put me on to all the right spots. Unfortunately I ruined many with poor casting. Excellent hatches of olives and later mayfly and fish taking from surface. Longdistance release of several. Around 4 beautiful wbt to hand. Beautiful beat.

Two more p.m. 15 lbs fly, 11 lbs spinning. Nearly like the old days. Should be some fun upriver for someone over the next few days.

Beat:Edw Hergest

Fishing:Trout (River)

Hergest has been cleared of a large fallen tree this year and to good effect. Beat is in good condition and lots of fish. I caught a large number of Edw trout of various sizes but none were fingerling size. I fished very slowly and carefully but as the day progressed the water because quite dirty due to large cloud bursts just above where I was standing and I suspect the fishing became a little easier as a result. A very damp day but a very rewarding one.

Dry fly using imitation mayfly for trout. Black nymph wet fly for grayling. River conditions clear for two hours until heavy rain coloured water and fish stopped feeding. First visit to the water, very impressed with the venue and will visit again. very easy access and comfortable banks.

Edw - Aberedw Beat
One of my favourite beats didn't disappoint. Not the best of weather with some biblical showers but a steady hatch of olives of all sizes and the odd mayfly. The Edw seems to be stuffed with wbt, it's not as tight as it looks and you're not constantly clambering in and out of the river. 19 wbt to hand, all on CDC Olives, Adams and Klinks, at least half 9" plus, and feisty hard fighting fish. Cracking day, cracking beat.
The only negative on an outstanding day was not being able to find "Aberedw" beat on the WUF website back at the hotel that evening. Please don't tell me it's being decommissioned.
WUF Note: A gate has been installed in the fence next to the parking area. We are currently trying to find alternative arrangements and hope to have the beat open again very soon.
