Glad I braved the remnants of Bertha for a few hours at/after daybreak. Back in the evening after drying out for a few hours! Consistent sport from 6 through until 10 and then from 5 until 9 (ish) even though river the colour of chocolate by the early evening. Fed with PVA bags of pellet and ledgered pellet, spam and corn hookbaits - all caught. Nothing huge but a great days sport.

RAIN, RAIN and more RAIN but good for the river. Did clear in the afternoon and on the plus side, kept the canoes away. Fished every type of swim possible fast water, slow, deep, shallow and far bank under the trees but the fish did not want to know. Did manage 3 fish in the end but hard work, just could not find them. Maybe next time.

Was only planning an evening session which turned into a short 2 hour session after hitting motorway delays. However, left very happy after managing four barbel to 8lb 6oz from the rocks. Stormy weather made the conditions more favourable than they have been of late though.
First visit here and looks a great stretch from what I managed to glimpse - if you don't mind a bit of a walk. Will definitely be visiting here again.
Many thanks.

River in perfect condition which is more than could be said for the weather - high winds and torrential rain! The two barbel were caught by one angler late in the afternoon and three of the chub were really chublets.

Tough low, clear water conditions just before Hurricane Bertha blew in: a few trout were rising towards the lower end of the beat, but for the life of me I couldn’t match what they were eating. In hindsight I should probably have gone to nymphs and a French leader, but the challenge of a rising trout is just so absorbing…
General comment: it’s a shame about the campsite occupying the true left bank just above Aberbran Bridge, which in practice means it’s impossible to fish this once-productive area – at least in high summer when the campsite is full.

An enjoyable day on Abernant. The fish did not fall on the hook, but steadily caught most of the day. Caught on nymphs at a variety of depths. Spiders and emergers. Nothing seems on work for long, but changing tac kept me in the fish. No monsters, a pound and a half grayling and a trout just over a pound were the best of the lot. All returned. One of the easier Upper Wye Beats, wading is mostly Gravel, access is good. I fish this area a lot and each beat has it's own unique character. A special Place.
