Very well kept beat by colin who does a great job. Lots of available swims to fish in comfort We fished various swims to catch a few chub early on to 4lb then it slowed.
Colin came and had a chat and put us on the barbel (thanks colin)
KW caught 5 barbel from 7 to 8lb and 7 chub to 4lb on various methods and baits. GW caught 10 chub but could not bag a barbel even though he did try very hard
The river was up a few inches and had a little bit of colour but still very low. I am sure we will be back to target those barbel again. Thanks WUF, great parking and good instructions.

River looked amazing, bit of colour but not chocolate but ultimately failed to live up to what was expected.
5 barbel and a chub are not to be sniffed at of course and it was enjoyable fishing.
However, it is a long walk from the car to the first swim. And despite being a 20 year Wye veteran, fishable areas were at a premium. I loved it, need to see the banks in winter when they aren't covered in undergrowth to get a better idea of the areas that are fishable.
If you don't like walking or creating a swim this isn't for you. If I had a car this is the only stretch I'd fish purely because it's such hard work!

Fished beat 3 in morning and 4 in afternoon, beautiful stretch with plenty pegs but long long walk to beats 5 and 6 due to gate been locked at end of beat 3. Only vehicle access to right bank is Locsters Pool. Struggled all day fishing till 7pm but managed 1 barbel late on using feeder/bomb and pellet but still enjoyed it and watched plenty salmon rising, more suited to fly angler or adventurous roving coarse angler.

Moved around throughout the day, Chub were suicidal for the first 90 mins in each swim. Most chub 3-4lbs. Had a few at 4-5oz, my hookbait was as big as their head! Settled into a swim for the evening. The chub kept coming until the last half hour of light when I had 3 barbel in quick succession. Strange day as the last time I was here me and a friend had 20 Barbel between us and only 2 Chub.

Second day of two day session. River started to drop but was already low and running fairly clear. Another hard day during the day with fish only coming at dusk. Lots of canoes during the day but most polite and considerate.

Fished from 8.30am till dusk. Tried several pegs but only caught fish from the pebble beach. Water levels were quite low and falling, so not ideal.
I had a friendly swan with me all day feeding on the weed from my line. Bites came sporadically throughout the day but with a little more enthusiasm in the evening.
The track is beginning to be slippery on the first corner near the entrance so take care unless we get a dry spell.
The barbel were all between 7-8lbs and in lovely condition.
A busy kingfisher was evident most of the day fishing for fry very close to us.
A most enjoyable day.

Area:Lugg & Arrow

Beat:Lyepole

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Next to Aymestrey, Lyepole is probably my favourite Lugg beat. Unlike most of the river, Lyepole will invariably produce on those dog days of summer. Not that today fell into that category; there was a distinctly autumnal feel to it, with the overnight rain putting just that hint of colour in the water. The Grayling were really having it, with fish caught - and usually 2 or 3 of them in rapid order - from just about every run I fished. Mostly fish in the 8 to 10 inch class; but there were plenty at 1lb plus - including a brace, that I caught on consecutive casts nudging 2lbs a piece. All on tungsten nymph. Trout, which mostly came from the same shallow run, taken on a tan klinkhammer. Tres bonne!

canoes, canoes and canoes, canoes again. Very promising place but not for now. Risky because the people in canoes, struggled to fish up to 8pm.
