Using feeder with pellet managed one chub around 1lbs would of liked to have had a bit more water. Lots of rowing vessels up until midday.

A few hours to spare so was hoping for a few grayling but sadly trout were far more active the time I was there. Water moving well and clear but a little to turbulent and deep to get mid river where I feel they were holding in some lovely foam lanes. But still a nice afternoon out.

1 x grayling 6 inches. This turned out to be a miscalculation on my part. I booked the previous evening with the Eyton gauge showing 1ft 3ins, which I regard as about the upper limit for the Lugg. However, I didn't check again in the morning and when I arrived I found the river now up to 1ft 6 inches and strongly coloured - a sort of grey-brown instead of the usual grey-green and less than 6 inches visibility. I guess overnight rain in Radnorshire must have been to blame. Not a wash-off exactly and I tried some of the easier places for about 3 hours, but did no good except for one baby grayling. I gave it up at lunchtime. I am sure it will go back to fishing as well as usual once the colour clears up in a day or two.

Pink and weighted pink fished deep under indicator. Mostly small but best 14 inches. Large number of missed takes and besides 6 caught and released at least another 6 were released early. Hooked something about 5lb on a pink shrimp in top of Armies pool which was silver and went towards the sea at great speed. My 3 lb tip did not last long. I wonder what it was, large trout or a late run grilse???

A tough day despite the river looking perfect for a Barbel or two (up a few feet, plenty of colour, mild weather). Checked out several areas but due to oversleeping and arriving late I only actually fished in two swims. Two perfect conditioned Chub taken on maggots from a big crease in the bottom field saved the blank. Wish I'd moved to that swim earlier, because it seems to be a good high water spot :-)

Difficult day in bright conditions. Both barbel came in the last half hour on paprika flavoured meat and after struggling all day at least I left feeling relatively happy.

7 x grayling 11-15 inches, 9 x out of season trout 10-16 inches, trotting. A very grey, foggy day with drizzling showers off and on. Water at 1 ft 9 inches, falling slightly and rather coloured. A very slow start with out of season trout initially being much more interested than grayling. I went for a walk to the far end of the beat to warm up - the white egret is still around and becoming quite a familiar sight. Grayling finally woke up towards dark, just before I packed up.

After a spell of warm weather I decided to take my son Christopher to Courtfield his first time on the wonderful river Wye. And what a day not only his first barbel but a double 10 lb 12oz followed by a 4lb chub both on halibut flavoured meat . I only managed one small chub! I have fished Courtfield many times and had lots of barbel but never a double! All the more impressive my son is only 7 brilliant day, brilliant fishing

Change of plans after heavy overnight rain made the Ithon look unfishable. I found the Dore still very low and clear.
Still mild and a few olives hatching. Caught 2 Grayling of around 10 inches in the slower water on a Gold bead red tag.
