48 x grayling 9-15 inches, 6 x out of season trout 8-11 inches, long trotting. A remarkably contrasting day of weather compared to the past cold week: the air temperature started at 10 degrees and rose to 14 degrees. Balmy conditions but with a strong upstream wind. The river was still pretty cold and showing 1 foot on the Llanstephan gauge. Once again there were a few large dark olives and surprisingly a short but quite intense hatch of willow fly - I thought we had seen the last of those for this year. I just carried on trotting. And I have seen the little egret again, which is getting to be a familiar sight.

Perfect 3 hours fishing. The weather was mild (12 degrees!) and the river, unusually for this time of year, was at a perfect height. All the fish fell to very small nymphs fished low in the water. No sign of shoaling grayling; each fish was from a different swim, but my day was limited to 3 hours so I did not get time to explore all of the beat.

Nice mild day after the cold snap. River clear and at a nice level - 1'2" at Byton. No fly life about and, it would appear, few fish showing; perhaps they needed a day to adapt to the change of weather. Only had the two small grayling between us, one each plus a fingerling trout, all on weighted nymphs. DB's first visit to this very pretty valley.

1 x grayling 15 inches on Pink Shrimp. This didn't go so well. A very cold morning with the Arrow running quite high, but very clear. I struggled for a result but was pleased with one nice fish.

Beautiful but very cold morning on the LLangoed beat, the water was running gin clear and the Grayling took a bit of searching for but once found came consistently for a couple of hours. They mostly came to small hares ear and pheasant tail jigs fished on a french leader.

Difficult conditions resulted in a blank unfortunately. freezing in the morning giving way to bright sunny conditions not ideal. However a lovely days fishing enjoyed by both of us. We will be back! many thanks Wye and Usk.

17 x grayling 6-16 inches, Pink Shrimp and Tungsten Hare's Ear, 1 x out of season trout 12 inches. A dull day, slightly warmer than of late. Lugg water beautifully clear with that slight grey-green tinge, but with 1 foot 3 inches on the Byton gauge, a bit higher and more turbulent than ideal in my opinion. Thus there was much tinkering around with the weight of the nymphs in order to try and get the right result. Mostly shotts, but a couple of good ones turned up as the light faded. Interesting how often that happens.
