I knew that booking was going to be a gamble and on this occasion it did not pay off. The river was high but always the optimist I had a go and there were a few areas that looked promising but blanked. Despite this, it was good to get a rod out and brush up on some skills and the scenery was good. Hopefully better luck next time.

River rising again but clear and superb condition. Pike was the target species this morning and visiting WUF anglers C R and friend were quick to catch a superbly conditioned pike weighing 15lb 5 oz from Pauls Orchard beat 2. This fish is currently the top weight fish in the 'Whitney Court Pike Competition' sponsored by Sportfish. We know there are plenty bigger fish on the Estate, just needs some applied effort really. Good luck if you can beat this.

With the river at an acceptable level and the weather quite mild I don't know what I was doing wrong, if anything, today but I didn't find any fish other than a 10" brown trout that came to a red tag. Just one of those days I suppose.

My first attempt at grayling fishing! Good weather and water height on a lovely stretch of river. I caught a 15in grayling on a heavy bug in the first five minutes but after that just a couple of pulls that I failed to connect with.

I booked the Leen beat as a Christmas present for my Dad in hope of catching him his first grayling.
The river was in perfect nick and the weather was warm so we had no excuses not to catch. The trout were hard on the feed making it very difficult to get through to the grayling. We persevered and managed 3 nice fish to over a pound including my Dads first ever grayling.
The majority of the fish were caught in the upstream half of the beat on double and single maggot. The fish were definitely sitting in the calmer water as the majority of bites came when fishing on the edge of of a crease.
We were also lucky enough to see an otter which came within 10 feet of us before vanishing back into the river!

Beat:Pontithel - River Llynfi

Fishing:Winter Grayling

Water levels still running through at some pace. Most fish came between 1pm and 2pm. 2 grayling over 16 inches, others about 14 inches. All trout over 12 inches. All took size 16 point fly, nothing taking the droppers. River at .57 on the gauge, .45 would be ideal to give nymphs more time to work their way through the feeding lanes. Had a couple of grayling on bigger but lost them to hook pulls in the strong current. Still this beat is a cracker and on its day could yield some stonking fish.
