Very poor 3 days of fishing. The river was clear and with a drop in temperature I am sure the fish were hibenating! No real bites apart from 2 chub. We were using pellets and feeders, and saw several kingfishers.

Slow going due to the cold north easterlies and water level dropping. But we did have a few fish on pellet. We have fished Sugwas before but this time 2 of us tried above the orchard. We enjoyed our day despite the slow fishing.

Fished up the upper part of the stretch without much luck then fished it down with wets. Successful flies were March Brown and Red Tag, particularly the March Brown on the top dropper. Also had three out of season WBT and numerous grayling shoats, all returned.

River conditions were clear and low, with some concern that no small fish present. Disappointed with the fishing. Used stick float and feeder methods, maggot and fine tackle. One graylng to show for it and I've chub from luncheon meat on feeder. Maggots not even attacked by minniws etc during the whole day fshing. River appeared devoid of fish life with nothing at all showing at the surface.

Fished from 11-3 ..nothing doing until 12.30 despite searching carefully with nymphs and then an olive hatch brought some rising fish. 4 Grayling from 12" to 14", Trout was around 14" and fish came to Para Adams,Griffiths Gnat and Greenwells all size 16. Glad I'm catching more Grayling than Trout on this beat, it was the opposite this time last year.

Arrived slightly despondent from the day before but found this stretch rather more enticing. Fishing with various nymphing techniques failed to produce anything, a switch to Grayling Steel Blues and Griffiths Gnat brought five hard fighting and very quick recovering Grayling between 8 & 14-15 inches from the right bank bend at what I think would be an island in higher water a couple of hundred yards up from the bridge. Not a huge bag I know but they saved our weekend ! We both thought a return to this beat in the trout season could prove interesting.

I have only fished small streams for the last two years so it took a bit of getting used to fishing something larger. A great day despite having to battle against a chilly downstream wind and a large number of leaves in and on the water. Caught two Grayling, one of which was about 14" and a nice OOS trout of about 15". All fish were caught on tungsten beaded nymphs with a bit of red or pink in and were caught in fast, shallow water. Frustratingly I must have lost close to 10 fish including several that took a dry fly. I can't help but wonder if it was just one of those days or if i was a bit rusty and doing something wrong. Saying that, catching a few decent fish on such a nice stretch of river at this pleasant time of year was all I needed.
